Dear Sisters & Brothers in the Lord,

Welcome! I rejoice as you join the Sacred Heart worshiping community in celebrating our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your

presence and prayerful participation are a blessing for all who gather. Thanks for being with us!! Pope Francis, in his preaching, has emphasized our call as Church, as disciples of Jesus, to be attentive to those in need, the poor. With his eyes fixed on Jesus, Pope Francis mirrors Jesus’ instruction that giving food and drink to the least of our brothers and sisters is giving food and drink to Jesus, himself. Doing so brings an invitation to God’s Kingdom. Recently, there have been news stories on the empty shelves in local food cupboards. Soon, food stamps distributed to low income families will be reduced. Listening to Pope Francis, aware of the hungry in our area and conscious of our blessings as a faith community, I believe we as a Parish are called to expand our outreach to the needy. Presently, the Parish collects food and baby items during four months of the year. We will expand to once a month for twelve months and refer to this endeavor as the “SACRED HEART SHARING PROJECT.” In today’s bulletin is a list of dates for this “sharing project,” most are scheduled for the last weekend of each month. Check it out! It is my prayer that this “sharing project” will result in many blessings for us as a faith community. As you will notice in today’s bulletin, there are many events that invite your participation. Parents of children in Sacred Heart School and in our Religious Education Program have meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. I hope you will join us for the Parish Picnic on Sunday, September 22. Plan now to have “breakfast” with your fellow worshipers after each Mass on Sunday, September 29! Know your participation enriches you and the Sacred Heart Community.

Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee
