    Catholic Schools Week Begins

    JANUARY 14, 2013

    Principals CornerDear Parents,

    Catholic Schools Week 2013

Catholic Schools Raise the Standards is the theme of our National Catholic Schools Week celebration

scheduled January 25-February 1. The events weve planned demonstrate how we at Sacred Heart Catholic

School are striving for high standards and what our students are learning as a result.

High standards are nothing new for Catholic schools, which have long been known for their emphasis on

academic excellence, faith development and commitment to service. Nonetheless, our theme is timely because i

highlights the launch of an initiative, the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementar

and Secondary Schools, to ensure consistent high standards at Catholic schools across the country.

The national initiative established a set of defining characteristics for Catholic schools that we have started to

implement such as moving towards the MN state standards, implementing the MCA standardized test next scho

year, and eventually moving towards a standards-based report card. I hope you will join us during a fun-filled

week of celebrating our wonderful Catholic school. Please bring your friends and neighbors to our Open Hous

on Sunday, January 27th, particularly those who may be thinking of Catholic education for their children.

When you visit our school, Im sure youll be as proud of our students as we are. What helps make their

accomplishments possible is the dedication and commitment of our pastor, teachers, staff, school committee

members, parents, and volunteers. Im thankful for each one of you every day, but I want to make a point-at th

special time of year for Catholic schools-of publicly extending my deepest appreciation to everyone who makes

    our school a success.

    Devoted in Christ,

    Karen Bursey

    Lockdown Procedures

Last Wednesday, Robbinsdale Police Officer Beard visited after school, to discuss new lockdown procedures for our student

and staff. He helped us develop a new safety plan to ensure that our students and staff are safe when internal or external

factors deem it necessary to go into school lockdown mode. Because our building is one large campus now, our entire

building will take part in practice drills. The state mandates five practice drills each year. If you are in the building durin

one of our practice drills, please be expected to follow the designated procedures.

Please help us stay safe at school. As you enter the building, please do not let anyone follow you in the

building if you do not know the person. Please notify the school office of any suspicious activity or

concerns you may have. Safety is our primary concern.

generosity of unknown friends insures that each and every child here at Risen Christ School experiences the special joy of receiving their ownwished-for gifts on Christmas morning.

Thank you for making this miracle happened.
