Why Corner

Higher Standard (Part II)

Jesus, you want us to be perfect? Why? You want us to re-flect your Father’s likeness, goodness, kindness, and agape-love in us for others. "So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."

First, Jesus said, "love your enemies...." Agape-love someone unconditionally and sacrificially, is that what you meant? Yes! Love them even if they don't want to change? Abso-lutely! Love them even if every second of their lives is to kill, harm and hurt me? No questions asked! As Jesus said, "For he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good...." Agape-love demands that we take a proactive step toward our enemies by doing good and caring for them if need be. No room for hatred, ill feelings or negligence on our part toward them. Do you love your enemies?

Second, Jesus said, "pray for those who persecute you..." Pray for them! Here Jesus asked us to remember our persecutors in a personable and intimate way, prayer. Who would want to remember someone who persecutes us? No one! Why? Because in our prayers, we will realize how we persecute Jesus in and through our sins, but yet He continues "to intercede for us at the right hand of the father,"; and as He said to Peter and to us, "I will pray for you," knowing that Peter will deny Him. In prayers, our ill feelings, emotions, attitude and judgment toward others will be retuned to be more Christ-like. Are you praying for your persecutor? Fr. Young

THE 2014 ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF”

The 2014 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is now underway. You should be receiving a letter from Archbishop Gregory asking for a pledge to the 2014 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal funds the essential ministries of the wider church in our archdiocese—ministries that, in many cases, are of service to our parish. For example, Archbishop’s Annual Appeal gifts support seminarian education, respect life minis-try, child and youth protection, and priests’ continuing education to name a few. This year, the theme of the Appeal is, “You Shall Love Your Neighbor as Yourself.” Our Archbishop writes, “I see the love of the Lord lived in concrete and visible ways, and being shared with young and old, neighbors and strangers, near and far, every day in our archdiocese.” Your financial support for the work of our parish, and of the wider church in our archdiocese and the world is, in fact, one way to share your love with your community. After we reach our parish Annual Appeal goal, the archdiocese re-turns 100% of each additional dollar received from our parishioners to the parish. Please respond to the Archbishop’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges will be billed in ten monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

Yes, it Does Pay to Sign Up with Kroger Community Rewards!

Helping Hands received it’s first check from Kroger in the amount of $504.79 with only 37 of our parishioners signed up. We now have 58 parishioners signed up. Can you imagine how much money Helping Hands would receive if 100% of our Kroger shopping parishioners would sign up? If you’re not signed up yet, it’s easy to do. Go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com. Just follow the directions listed( you will need your email address, password and Kroger plus card account number). Its free and you will be helping your neighbors in Bald-win County. The organization number assigned to us by Kroger is 17538. Use this number when you register. If you are having trouble registering, contact Mike McCabe at 452-7265 for assistance.

If you saw Jesus standing at the alter when you came into church, what would you do?

Would you drop to your knees in prayer or would you sit and visit with your friends about Wal‐Mart or a party you went to last night, or gossip about someone you both know, or talk about an event that happened since your visit last week?

Talking in church is rude! It is rude to Christ and it is rude to those who come to church to be in communion with Christ.

You may not physically see Christ when you enter church but He is there and He sees you! He wants to receive you in his loving arms and listen to you. Spend the few mo‐ments before mass having a conversation with Him instead of your friends.

Having a conversation with Christ will do a lot more for your soul than a conversation with your friend.

PRAYING PACEM IN TERRIS Men are by nature social, and consequently they have the right to meet together and to form associa-tions with their fellows. They have the right to confer on such associations the type of organization which they consider best calculated to achieve their objectives. They have also the right to exercise their own initiative and act on their own responsibility within these associations for the attainment of the desired results. As We insisted in Our encyclical Mater et Magistra, the founding of a great many such intermediate

groups or societies for the pursuit of aims which it is not within the competence of the individual to achieve efficiently, is a matter of great urgency. Such groups and societies must be considered absolutely essential for the safeguarding of man's personal freedom and dignity, while leaving intact a sense of responsibility. (23-24)
