Grade reports. Academic grade reports will be emailed home on February 19. Parents should contact teachers if thereare any questions or concerns.

Calendar reminders. There will be NO CLASS on Friday, February 15 and Monday, February 18 for PresidentsDay.

Snow days. School closings are normally announced on the local media when bad weather hits. St. Charles is nevermentioned separately, but as part of Columbus Catholic Schools.

Attendance. Parents please note: Per our student handbook, page 20, parents are required to call our office before9:00 a.m. if your son is going to be late or absent for any reason. If a student needs to leave early for anappointment, please call the office as early as possible to notify us so we can give your son a pass to leave.Students at no time can excuse their own absence or tardy.

Class of 2023. Our freshman class for next year is coming together. Parents are encouraged to call the main office at614-252-6714 to schedule interviews to finalize the admission process.

Student Driving and Parking. A student who has a valid Ohio driver’s license, and has received permission from his parentsor guardian, may drive to school. Students are permitted to park in designated areas only. Students are to register the makeand model of the car they are driving to school and its license number.

1) National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Exam for seniors on Monday, March 4:On Monday, March 4th our seniors will take the NAEP exam in one of three subject areas: Reading, Math, or Science.These exams are national exams and St. Charles was selected this year to provide graduate data for the nation. Testingwill begin right after lunch and seniors will be dismissed when the testing period ends - typically between one and one halfto two hours.

2) ACT Exam for Juniors on Tuesday, March 12: On Tuesday, March 12, all Junior students will take the ACT exam at St. Charles. This ACT exam is free and it doescount as an official test for college admission purposes. This is the only ACT exam that students will not need to registerfor because the State of Ohio registers students for this exam. The test will be taken after Homeroom on March 12th andstudents will be dismissed from school after the exam is completed.

St. Charles Mothers Club. Our next meeting is February 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cavello Center.Save the Date! The Mother Son Dance 2019 will be held Friday, May 10. Robotics. USED INK CARTRIDGES AND COMPUTERS - Do you have used ink jet or laser toner cartridges thatyou want to discard? Please consider donating them to the Saint Charles Robotics Team. The team can recycle theseand get credits towards much needed office supplies for the team. Also, we are still collecting used computers forrecycling as well. Items may be brought to Mr. Moyer in room 312 or dropped off at the office. If you have questions,please contact Mr. Moyer at [email protected].

Nurse’s office. State mandated freshman hearing and vision screenings and junior hearing screenings are complete.Letters were sent home for any questionable results. Basic vision and hearing screening is available at any time whileyour son is a student here.

According to State of Ohio law, all current juniors must have the meningococcal (serogroup A, C, W, Y) vaccine prior toentering their senior year of school. Proof of immunization has already been submitted on some students. If your sonreceived his first meningitis (MCV4) vaccine before the age of 16 – he will need a second one. If the vaccine is given atage 16 or after, only one shot is needed. There will be a list of those students needing the vaccine posted in your son’s

junior religion class. Please ask your son to check if his name is on the list. Please call the nurse with questions or usethis CDC website. www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpdmening/public/adolescent-vac

Thursday, April 25 is the annual St Charles blood drive from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Allstudents age 16 (with a parent permission), and 17 years old are eligible to participate and donate blood. All parents,grandparents, neighbors and friends are encouraged to help the students with this life saving project.

For illness prevention, frequent and thorough handwashing is #1, followed by healthy eating, adequate sleep, exercise, andlimiting contact with those that are ill. St. Charles does regular cleaning of its facilities. Bathrooms have soap and water;hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes are available in all classrooms and meeting areas. Thank you for reinforcing goodhygiene with your sons.

St. Charles Theatre. The St. Charles Preparatory School Drama Department is proud to announce its winterproduction, the Columbus and Central Ohio premiere of The Hundred Dresses, a musical by Ralph Covert and G. RileyMills and based on the book by Eleanor Estes. The Hundred Dresses will be presented Thursday, Friday, andSaturday, February 21, 22, & 23 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Charles CampusTheatre. Adult tickets are $10 each, and student tickets are $5 each. Reservations may be placed by calling the St.Charles main office at 614-252-6714 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Men’s &Women’s auditions for Spelling Bee…will be held Tuesday andWednesday, March 5 & 6 at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Campus Theater, 2010 East Broad St. Auditions are open toall area high school women in Central Ohio. ATHLETICS

Hockey. The popular St. Charles spring spirit wear sale is available through February 25. This sale has quantitymerchandise from Nike and Under Armour; including golf shirts, shorts, 1/2 zip pullovers, sweatshirts, joggers, baseballhats, visors and more! Purchased items will bedistributed to the boys during lunch unless alternate arrangements are made. Baseball. The annual Baseball Bash fundraiser will be held Saturday, February 16 at Villa Milano starting at 6:00p.m. Join us for an adults-only evening of food and fun-draising to benefit the St. Charles baseball teams. The eveningincludes dinner, wine pull, and cash bar, plus live and silent auctions with items ranging from an Indians vs Reds getawayto tailgate parties to Cardinals gear and multiple themed baskets. Soccer. St. Charles Soccer Program will hold its annual “Meet the Team Night” on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 7:00p.m. in the Walter Commons. This event provides an opportunity for all incoming St. Charles freshmen who plan to tryout for soccer (and their families) to meet the coaches, players, and families in the program. This will be a chance toreceive all the pertinent information on upcoming summer events and the 2019 season, including captains’ practices,camps, weightlifting and conditioning, tryouts, and fundraising. Join us in officially kicking off our 2019 season and becomea part of something great! Light refreshments and desserts will be provided. Wrestling. The wrestling program is hosting a spring social for parents, alumni, and friends on Friday March 15, from8:00-11:00 p.m. Please see the attachment.

Volleyball. The spring volleyball season is nearly here. All current students interested in playing this spring should talk toCoach Ned Gruber about upcoming open gym opportunities. Coach Gruber is available in room 212 before school androom 403 after school. You can also contact him by phone at (614) 804-7230 or by e-mail at [email protected] begin on March 4. We have never cut a player from the program, so you do not need to feel any anxiety abouttrying a new sport. We want players with no volleyball experience.

Any incoming freshman who is interested in playing a new sport in high school is encouraged to consider volleyball.More than half of our current team members had never played before high school. We do not cut players from theprogram. We are happy to teach you the game if you are willing to put in the time and effort to practice. The volleyballprogram has four teams (freshman, two evenly split junior varsity teams, and varsity), each of which plays a fullcompetitive schedule of 24 matches. We are having open gyms now, and all incoming freshmen are welcome to attend.
