Sunday, July 12h, 2020 – Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Cycle A Readings: Isaiah 55:10-11, Psalm 65 “ The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.”, Romans

8:18-23, Matthew 13:1-23 or 13:1-9

Dear brothers and sisters,

We hear stories from the lives of saints who talked with God and we imagine that their prayer was always a time of joy, consolation, visions and phenomenal experiences. But everybody, including the saints, continue to grow in their pray life. Saint Paul tells us in Romans 8:26, “we do not know how to pray as we ought.” Prayer is a conversation, but many people do not know how to enter into that conversation. We monologue until it gets boring, and then, in our fatigue, we give up. Of course it is good to express our thanks, needs, fears, pains, joys, and questions to God. Our speaking to God is only half the conversation. God has to respond to his part of the dialogue. When you meet a person for the first time, it could be difficult to have a deep, constant and committed relationship. You start from small talks about the weather, some shared interest or the conversation runs out of steam. And it could get dull and boring when one dominates the conversation. But if your conversation creates a connection between the two of you, that conversation could sow the seeds of an ongoing friendship. In the first reading of this Sunday, Prophet Isaiah tells us that the word of God will accomplish its purpose “my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.” In our prayers, we are reminded to listen to God speak to us. So that we may claim his word for our lives. Among the many lessons the parable of the sower in today’s gospel offers, we are encouraged to be good soil to re-ceive the seed (the word of God). In praying we are like the soil ready to receive the graces, blessings, favors, mission and the instructions of God. But what type of soil are you? Re you like the soil on the path, rocky ground, or rich soil? Jesus wants to have a conversation with us and being docile to him in prayers helps a lot. Lectio Divina is a powerful process to help us all dialogue with God’s Word. Lectio (Latin for “a raeding”) and divina (divine) literally means “divine reading,” and refers to the reading of sacred scripture in the context of personal prayer. Be blessed as you encounter the Lord in your prayers.

Fr. Paschal Chester, svd

Monologamos has-

necesidades, miedos, dolores, alegrías y preguntas a Dios.

Padre Paschal Chester, svd

honor and glory.

In Your name we pray,

Amen.

otorgado.

Prayer during the hurricane season.

Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us

and turn our fear of your power into praise of your goodness.

Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to Overcome Racism

Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a way to unite himself to every human being,

called to be one people, sisters and brothers to each other.

We ask for your help in calling on your Son, seeking forgiveness for the times when we have failed to love

and respect one another. We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need to overcome the evil of racism and to

build a just society. We ask for your help in following your Son, so that

prejudice and animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be replaced with a love that respects

the dignity of each person. Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus

warms our hearts: pray for us. Amen.
