Reverence in the Church - Why? Part 2
The highest and greatest reverence is due to the Holy Eucharist When it comes to the House of God, and the Holy Eucharist in the tabernacle, the dignity of the Person we speak of is One who is INFINITE, God Himself. Therefore, the greatest reverence we can give is reserved for Jesus Christ Himself in the Holy Eucharist.
Baptism received before Eucharist Jesus Christ gave His Church seven Sacraments which can only be received with the faith and the reverence we owe them unless we are first baptized. By Baptism, we are made a member of the Church. Baptism admits us to the Church and new life in Christ. That is why each time we enter the church building, a sacred place, we are to bless ourselves with Holy Water. Holy Water is the sacramental symbol of our Baptism into the Church. We use it as a reminder of Baptism and a means of sanctification. Take your time blessing yourself to recall its meaning of Baptism.
Genuflection, an Act of Reverence and Adoration Just before entering the pew, one should genuflect. Genuflection is the bending of the knee to the floor as an act of reverence (providing you are physically able. Otherwise bow your head slightly) . You are showing adoration to Jesus Christ who is present in the tabernacle. Also, when you pass before the Most Blessed Sacrament (Jesus) in the tabernacle, you should also genuflect.
Kneeling in Silent Adoration Kneeling is a gesture or act of adoration. After we enter the pew, one should spend a short time kneeling in prayer even though the Mass may not begin for a few minutes. If you are unable to kneel, still spend time in silence to reflect before the Mass begins.
This time before Mass is not for socialization. We should remain silent. The tradition of the Catholic Church is to retain silence in reverence for the real presence of Jesus Christ and the House of God. Set a good example to remind others. Jesus gave His life for us. Can we not give him one hour?
PERPETUAL ADORATION OF
OUR LORD, And You!!
From Vultus Christi
Our Lord says: I remain unknown. I am left alone.
Even those who claim to profess the mystery of My real presence in the Sacrament of the Altar forsake Me. I am treated with a terrible indiffer-
ence, with coldness, and with a lack of respect that causes the Angels to weep because they cannot offer me
reparation for the coldness and indifference of human hearts.
ONLY MAN CAN MAKE
REPARATIONS FOR MAN!
