But there is so much more to say about the Romans…

bp1.blogger.com/.../s400/segovia+aqueducts.JPG

The Romans were accomplished architects and builders. Many of their structures still survive. Below is the aqueduct bridge in Segovia, Spain.

What do you call the roundedparts of the bridge?

http://www.chess-theory.com/images5/01835_pont_du_gard.jpg

And here is the famous Pont du Gard in southern France.

Aqueducts brought clean water to cities for use as drinking water, and to feed private and public baths.

The emperor Caracalla built a public bath house that could accommodate over 3000 bathers!

Below is the Pantheon (“to all gods”) in Rome. Until recently it was theLargest domed building in the world.

The Pantheon’s dome is a perfect half circle!

And check out theinterior…

Here is Apollo at his temple in Pompeii.

Below is the Temple of Mars Ultor or “Mars the Avenger”built by the first emperor Augustus to honor his victoryover the assassins of Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra and Marc Anthony.
