Our goal was thirty students forthe f if th semes te r of th e ChristianCollege. Twenty-six students enrolledfor this new semester, eight being news tuden ts . C l as se s a r e held on the firstfloor of the educational plant of thechurch in Brasilia. Although twenty-five of t he p re sent s tudent s are atcollege level, plans are to continue todevelop th e basic Junior Collegelevel and ex tension courses in bothlevels. In this way, we can reach allwho are anxious to se rve th e Lord infull-time or part-time activity.

The college leaders hope to setstandards and develop training principles that willhelp extend the Kingdomin Biblical patterns and teachings. These s tudent s each pay $25 pe rmonth for 10 months, or havescholarships in one way or another. The budget for th e College ha s jumped to approximately $900 pe r month. Aninteresting note is that all of ours tu d en ts a re full-time ministers in th earea, or hold other jobs in thegovernment and o the r activities.

    ScholarsiiipsAlthough the Brazilian churches

have provided several scholarships, more scholarships are needed for thisnext semesterwhich begins inAugust.Full scholarships are $25 pe r monthfor 10 months, and part-time scholarships ar e $12.50 per month for 10months. These may also be paid as ayearly gift of $250 or $125. Pleaseprayerfully consider a full-time or

part-time scholarship. More studentswould enroll ifmore scholarships wereavailable.

A Var ie ty o f E thni c GroupsStudents at the Christian College

come from a var ie ty of states and aredescendairts of various ethnic groups.Six states are represented by th eFreshman class: Goi^s, Para, Bahia,Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, andCear^. In a brief questionnaire in thecounseling class, these same studentsreported being of Portuguese, Italian,Indian, Spanish, Arabic and Jewishdescent. In our first student/facultyassembly, we noticed also that we hadstudents and professors from thestates of Mato Grosso, Maranhao ,Minas Gerais andSao Paulo, as well asthe coun tr ies of Colombia and U.S.A.

Historically SpeakingOur educational and training ce n

ters in Brazil have risen and fallenbecause of factors beyond ou r con

trol. Now, development includes alllevels of training. Thankfully, moreopportunities for work come so rapidly, that evangelism never falls.A new campus, in a stratigic location, has been given to BrazilChristian Mission for the development of a tri-purpose training programof education, children's home andmedical post. This new area will opennew channels of training yet undeveloped. A boardingschool is planned forshort-term students, and training willbe developed for establishing extension centers in more and more areas, and in laboratory trainihg of schooltechniques. All that is lacking now is personneland financial backing Pray with usfor this vision of need and this stepof faith Thank you for yoursupportin prayers and gifts. Help this collegefaculty and its s tudent s t o r ea ch outinto all the world. Your prayers cansend missionaries, evangelists andp asto rs to ye t unreached areas inBrazil and the world

A STORY OF A RUNAWAY SLAVEThe Bible relates t he s to ry of aslave that served the L ord and th eChurch in a special way.In Brazil, a young man tel ls hiss tory one night to a group of friends:

As a youngman, Iwas livingin theState of Rio Grande do Norte (NorthBigRiver)when a trucker came by oneday looking for young men who couldgo to work in the State ofGoias, 1,000miles away. I was lonely and had noprospects, so it sounded good to me.But how could I go? I had no money topay for the passage in the open truckthat carried people like cattle. Thesolution came when t he dr iver of feredto take me for free, but said that would be s ol d when I arrived in Goiasto work out my passage.

Ten days later, we arrived in St.Helena, Goias, where I found myself, along with the t ruckload of workers,no t only sold but herded at gun-pointout to a farm where the nightmare offorced labor began, watched day andnight by armed guards.Fou r mon th s later, I could standthis life no longer and so I fled throughwild ca t and snake infested woods, notknowing what direction to head, without food or shelter, until some 30miles later 1 arrived back a t th e smalltown of St . Helena. Here the little bit ofcash I had was stolen, bu t Iwas able tocatch a ride to a place called Itumbiarain South Go ia s wh er e a truck driverbefr iended me and arranged a ride toBrasilia. In Brasilia, I slept and restedin the police s ta tion and then s ta rted

walking and walking to look for workon farms around Brasilia. It was thenthat 1arrived at the Christian Campof th e Brazil Chr i s t i an Mission andwas befriended by the Christian worker and caretaker, Calixto. I participated in a youth camp and hereaccepted Christ. Later, I studied withCharles Kent, missionary in Tagua-tinga, who was in charge of the CampGrounds and took some Bible studiesby extension. It was here I made theacquaintance with other missionariesworking in the a rea .. .David Sande r s and Bill Lof tA few years after this, the dooropened for me to study at the GoianiaChr is t ian Inst it u te and 1 was able tovisit several churches, playing theguitar, singing and witnessing. I wasable to work with missionary DaleMcAfee in Ceres, Goias for a timean d while here, Ime t my wife, Shirley. She was a Christian from th e NovaGloria church before it was closed.
