COVID-19 update

Playground back in use The students were finally able to enjoy playing on their playground equipment when they returned to school last week. The soft fall was purchased by our P&C, and the playground now adheres to strict Department of Education safety guidelines. Many thanks to Mr Parker for all his hard work over the holidays filling in the playground area with the new soft fall.

Parents are reminded that there are to be no non-essential visitors on the school site. Canteen and uniform shops are permitted to run, and allied health professionals (therapists) have returned to school, where necessary. Any person who needs to come on to school grounds for any reason, must report to the office, and fill in a contact information form, and sign to say that they are familiar with and agree to adhere to social distancing guidelines. This now applies to families as well as outside visitors. All visitors to the school are required to sign the visitors book in the office each time they come on to school grounds. Please remember to keep your child home from school if they show any signs of being unwell.

Workers of the Week

Reports Semester 1 reports were distributed to students last Friday. These reports are a simplified version of the reports you normally receive, and did not include the A-E gradings. If you have any questions regarding your child’s learning, you are welcome to schedule an interview with their teacher.

Public Speaking Competition This year the Public Speaking Competition will go ahead as normal with all students presenting a speech in class. One student from each stage will be chosen to present their speeches at our Education Week Assembly in Week 3 and the winner will go on to represent the Sandy Hollow Public School at the Small School’s Public Speaking finals in Term 3. The topic this year is ‘Who is My Hero?’. Students are expected to prepare their speeches at home and present them in class this week. Finalists will be announced at the end of this week. Good luck!

Assemblies Due to the latest advice from the Department of Education regarding visitors on school sites, there will be no assemblies again this term. Awards will be given to students on alternate Fridays and will be acknowledged on Facebook.

Pie Drive The P&C’s Pie Drive was a huge success, raising $1217.70. What a fantastic effort for a small community! Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraising venture, and especially our dedicated P&C members, Renee Roper, Michelle Stennett, Leanne Pike and Helen Smith, who helped pack the orders on Friday.

Tennis All students thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis for sport last week, and it was fantastic to see the older students encouraging and helping the younger students develop their skills.
