RIBERA DISTRICT

• It is situated out of the original city wall.• Santa Maria del Mar, the basilica• There were artisans, merchants, guilds…• Half of it was destroyed in 1714 .• The Palau de la Música is in this district

CHARACTERISTICS

• It’s an icon of Catalan Gothic• It has space and it is simple• Great light and acoustic

HISTORY

• Built between 1329 – 1383• Situated under roman necropolis• Damaged and restored several times (Fire,

earchquake, etc.)

• CATALAN GOTHIC - Space and volume - Octagonal bell tower - Simplicity• Geometry• Stained glass windows

CONCLUSIONS

• Santa Maria del Mar is the second church more important in Barcelona.

• It is important because it was built by the neighboors and promoted by the nobility.

• Nowadays the basilica is an important turistic place in Barcelona.
