Dear Friends, At the very conclusion of the Bible, there is a word of hope and encouragement given by the Risen Lord to St. John, “Behold, I make all things new!” (Revelation 21:5) The hope of the renewal of the entire creation through Christ animates all that we do and spurs us on to proclaim the Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection. While we proclaim the new life which is ours in Christ, we also look for ways to reflect the power of His Spirit, which renews the face of the earth. Here at McGill- Toolen, we have undertaken several projects recently which have made old and treasured facilities shine with a new beauty. If you drive down Lafayette Street, you cannot help but notice the beautiful landscaping in front of the Toolen Building. In addition to plants and flowers, a new circular patio has been added, which has already become a gathering place for students. In addition to landscaping, the interior of the Toolen Building has been refurbished with new ceiling tiles, fresh paint and updated lighting in the halls. Down the street at the CYO Building, extensive renovations have been completed. The exterior of the building has been repaired and freshened up, and the interior has been outfitted with new wooden flooring for the basketball courts, new backboards, new HVAC, and new bleachers. With the addition of landscaping on the grounds similar to that at the Toolen Building, it now stands as an impressive and inviting facility for the youth of our Archdiocese. Jesus makes all things new while Himself remaining “the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8) In a similar vein, while McGill-Toolen grows and evolves in its educational mission, our fundamental identity as a Catholic school remains the same. Standing as a symbol of continuity with our past is a new portrait of the first Rector of McGill Institute, Fr. James Coyle. That portrait was commissioned by Archbishop Rodi and donated to McGill-Toolen this past summer. The image of a striking young priest whose zeal and dedication guided the beginning of our school now greets visitors to the McGill Building. Thank you for your continued support of McGill-Toolen—may we continue to bring the Good News of Christ’s redeeming love to many generations. Sincerely, Reverend W.
