General DescriptionTheSimpleComfort®2201isintendedtooperateandiscompatiblewith24VACresidentialheatpumpswithupto2-stageheat/2-stagecool.Itwilloperatewithmulti-stageheatpumpsystemsthataremanualchangeoverandhaveauxiliaryoremergencyheating.Therearenooptionalitemsrequiredforstandardinstallations.Thisthermostatisalsocompatibleasamasterthermostatinzonedsystemapplications.

TheSimpleComfort®2201willautomaticallycontroltheheatand/orairconditioningsystem.Whenusedproperly,thisthermostatcanreduceheatingandcoolingcoststhroughouttheyear.

• Alwaysturnoffpoweratthemainpowersourcebyunscrewingfuseorswitchingcircuitbreakertotheoffpositionbeforeinstalling,removing,cleaning,orservicingthisthermostat

ELECTRICALSHOCKHAZARD – Turn off power at the main service panel by removing the fuse or switching the appropriate circuit breaker to the Off position before removing the existing thermostat.

1. Turnoffpowertotheheatingandcoolingsystembyremovingthefuseorswitchingofftheappropriatecircuitbreaker.

2. Removecoverofoldthermostat.Thisshouldexposethewires.3. Labeltheexistingwireswiththeenclosedwirelabelsbeforeremovingwires.Seetablebelowforoldand

newlabelidentification.4. Afterlabelingwires,removewiresfromwireterminals.5. Removeexistingthermostatbasefromwall.6. Refertothefollowingsectionforinstructionsonhowtoinstallthisthermostat.

ELECTRICALSHOCKHAZARD – Turn off power at the main service panel by removing the fuse or switching the appropriate circuit breaker to the Off position before removing the existing thermostat.

IMPORTANT: Thermostatinstallationmustconformtolocalandnationalbuildingandelectricalcodesandordinances.

IMPORTANT: Thisthermostatiscompatiblewith100%lockoutsystems.Toresetthesystem,turnthermostattoOffpositionforatleast60seconds.

Note:Mountthethermostataboutfivefeetabovethefloor.Donotmountthethermostatonanoutsidewall,indirectsunlight,behindadoor,orinanareaaffectedbyaventorduct.

1. Turnoffpowertotheheatingandcoolingsystembyremovingthefuseorswitchingofftheappropriatecircuitbreaker.

2. PutMode switchinOffposition.

3. PutFan switchinAutoposition.

4. Toremovecover,insertandtwistacoinorscrewdriverintheslotsonthesidesofthethermostat.

5. Putthermostatbaseagainstthewallwhereyouplantomountit(Besurewireswillfeedthroughthewireopeninginthebaseofthethermostat).

6. Marktheplacementofthemountingholes.

7. Setthermostatbaseandcoverawayfromworkingarea.

8. Usinga3/16”drillbit,drillholesintheplacesyouhavemarkedformounting.

9. Useahammertotapsuppliedanchorsinmountingholes.

10. Alignthermostatbasewithmountingholesandfeedthecontrolwiresthroughwireopening.

11. Usesuppliedscrewstomountthermostatbasetowall.

12. Insertstripped,labeledwiresinmatchingwireterminals.SeeWiringDiagramssectionofthismanual(Pages11-24).

CAUTION!:Besureexposedportionofwiresdoesnottouchotherwires.

13. Tightenscrewsonterminalblock.Gentlytugwiretobesureofproperconnection.Doublecheckthateachwireisconnectedtotheproperterminal.

14. Sealholeforwireswithnon-flammableputtyorinsulation.

15. Replacecoveronthermostatbysnappingitinplace.

16. Turnonpowertothesystematthemainservicepanel.

17. Testthermostatoperationasdescribedinthefollowingsection.

Note:WhileinCoolorHeatmode,oncethethermostatturnsthesystemoff,abuilt-indelaykeepsthecompressorfromturningonforabout5minutes.Thisprotectsthecompressor.

TherearethreeLEDindicatorslocatedonthefrontofthethermostat.Theyaredesignedtoinformyouofthefollowing:

AUX (GREEN): Thisturnsonwhentheauxiliary(back-up)heatingisinoperation.Thisisthesecond(non-economy)stageofheat.Itturnson2degreesbelowfirststageandisnotadjustable.

CHECK (RED): Whenthisturnson,amalfunctionhasoccurredsomewhereintheheatpumpsystem.Pleasecontactaqualifiedservicetechnicianassoonaspossibletocheckyoursystem.

EMER (RED): Thislightturnsonwhenevertheemergencyheatismanuallyselected(systemswitchisintheEMERposition).Whileintheemergencyheatmode,theheatpumpcompressorisoff,andtheemergencyheat(sameastheauxiliaryheat)maintainsthesetpointtemperature.

SettingaNewTemperatureDifferentialIMPORTANT: Thedefaulttemperaturedifferentialisfactorysetat1°F.Whenyourroomtemperaturevariesby1°F,the

thermostatturnsyoursystemon.Ifyounoticeyoursystemturningonandofftoofrequently,increasethetemperaturedifferentialaccordingly.

Step1: RemovecoverandpressResetbuttononce.

Step2: ThedisplaywillshowThisisthetemperaturedifferentialsetting.

Step3: Pressthe or buttontoadjustthetemperaturedifferentialdownorup.

Thedisplaywillreturntotheroomtemperaturedisplayfivesecondsafterthelastinput.Thenewtemperaturedifferentialsettingwillbesaved.

Note:Whenthethermostatoperatesthesystem,thereisbuilt-incompressorprotection.Afterthecompressorturnsoff,thesystemwillnotturnitbackonforaboutfiveminutes.Thisprotectsthecompressor.
