Description:Since2000,thecostofhousing(particularlyrentalhousing)throughouttheTwinCitiesmetropolitanareahasincreased,whileincomeshavegenerallystayedthesameordecreased.Inarecentsurveyofmorethan400ScottCountyemployers,1in5respondentssaidhousingforlower-incomeemployeeswasanissue.Giventhehistoricallylowunemploymentrate,employershaveaninterestingreaterhousingaffordabilityandopportunityinthecommunitieswheretheyarelocatedtoensuretheyhaveaccesstoasufficientlaborpooltofillopenpositionsandremaincompetitive.Oneapproachtoaddressthisissueisemployer-assistedhousing(EAH)programs,inwhichanemployerhelpsemployeesacquirehousingneartheirplaceofwork.Assistancecantakemanyforms,fromhelpingwithadownpaymentorsecuritydeposittoinvestingindevelopmentofmoreworkforcehousingintheircommunity.ThisprojectwillinvolveanalyzingdifferentEAHmodelstodetermineiftheyareeffectiveatattractingandretainingaworkforce,andtoidentifyspecificbusinessesorbusinesssectorsinScottCountythatwouldbenefitfromandpotentiallyparticipateinanEAHinitiativeinthecounty.KeyIssues,Questions,andIdeasforExploration:
