Support - Schick WiFi FAQ

• What is the difference between “0” and “Empty” battery levels? – At 0, it may be possible to take an image, although we strongly

recommend re-charging the battery well before it reaches that level. When the battery charge drops to empty, pairing is maintained, but the Sensor will not be detected, even if it is connected. Image acquisition is not possible until the Schick WiFi Interface is returned to the Docking Station for recharging.

• How does the power timeout setting work?– Power timeout is the length of time (in minutes) that the Schick WiFi

Interface will remain on before turning itself off automatically to conserve battery power. (The timeout setting does not apply when the device is recharging in the Docking Station.) The internal clock that controls this setting resets when: (a) acquiring and resending an image, (b) pairing and unpairing, and (c) disconnecting the Sensor. The setting can be changed on the Web Server’s Settings tab.

Page 53: Schick WiFi Presentation to Service Support Teams Schick Technologies, Inc. August 29, 2015

Support – WiFi Optimization

• Improving WiFi radio signal– Place wireless router / AP central to operatories, high

on a wall or shelf ~ 7ft– Place wireless router / AP away from potential

interfering devices:• Other routers, cordless phones, microwave ovens, and any

other 2.4 GHz band radiators– Minimize RF signal attenuation

• Remove obstructions between the router / AP and the Schick WiFi Interface

• Remove line-of-sight metal objects such as mirrors and shelves

• Orient router / AP antennas orthogonally (perpendicular) to each other

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play standard)•Internet Protocol Multicasting and Unicasting•Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) uses UDP as Transport Layer.•HTTP Requests / Responses•XML/ SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol)

Basic elements of Marconi Host Protocol: •Discovery (UPnP)•Notification and status (UPnP)•Device Control (proprietary Marconi Exclusive Protocol over TCP/IP link)

Discovery•To announce its presence and discover the presence of other devices on a network the device broadcasts (multicasts)a discovery message to a known standard address and port.•When a control point is initialized and wants to discover other devices on the network it multicasts a search message which devices respond to.

Device Control Suite•Application layer : Marconi Exclusive Protocol•Transport layer :Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)•Internet layer : Internet Protocol (IP)•Link Layer: Ethernet

Marconi Exclusive Protocol:•Direct link between control point (PC) and device for imaging and upgrades•Two TCP/IP sockets: forward request and reverse request•Device connects to a single control point at a time (Pairing)

Site Planning

• Router should be centrally located so that it is equidistant from the furthest operatories.

• Router should be placed as close to the ceiling as possible.

• WiFi is line-of-site, number of obstacles (walls) between router and PAT should be minimized.

• Router should have 2 or more antennas, they should be orthogonally directed and properly oriented. Simpler single antenna routers can be used, but only over shorter distances and with higher signal strengths.

• Signal Strength should report 190 or higher on WiFi utility, 210 or higher for single antenna routers. (RSSI scale is unitless, logarithmic 0 to 255)

Floor Plan

Original Location

Improved Location

Page 63: Schick WiFi Presentation to Service Support Teams Schick Technologies, Inc. August 29, 2015

Polarization

• Two antennas are necessary so that both horizontal and vertical polarization are available for proper PAT operation.

Page 64: Schick WiFi Presentation to Service Support Teams Schick Technologies, Inc. August 29, 2015

Antenna Orientation

• Whip antenna is omnidirectional in plane of operation. Vertically polarized antenna needs no adjustment.

• Horizontally polarized antenna needs to have beam in direction of operatories.
