Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you once again for your continued support of our school.
Swimming Results
Well done to all the boys and girls who attended the Zone Swimming Carnival last week on
Tuesday. Mr McCredie, Mrs Ballard and I attended the carnival and helped out with the
event. Harley M broke a Zone record in the Butterfly – what a beautiful style he has and
Fraser came overall second in his age group! We wish good luck to Harley M, Fraser B,
Airlei M and Rubee S for next Thursday at Sydney North.
Kiss and Drop
There has been a change to the Kiss and Drop area with a gate installed at the front of the
Zone. I am working with P&C, local council and government to make the best of a difficult,
one access point, situation. There are further plans to hopefully increase the number of
spaces and the flow of cars coming in and out of the Kiss and Drop Zone, being mindful of
safety of children. We have already received positive feedback about the change in gates
and we thank you for your support. Moving the children away from the hall gate has also
had a positive impact on people trying to leave the school from this area. Please also be
aware that Council Rangers do patrol school zones and have been in the area recently.
Progress Hall Money
We have received $750 from the Progress Hall from last year’s Village Fair. This money will
go towards upgrading our hall lighting in time for the Annual Performance. We thank the
Progress Hall committee for their continued support of our school. We thoroughly enjoy
working collaboratively with you.

P&C NEWS
CMPS P&C Association plays an active role at Central Mangrove. As well as raising additional funds to
assist with school activities and Uniform Shop; the P&C can have a say in everything from traffic safety
problems , bullying, enrolment issues, school transport, testing procedures, improved curricula, school
funding, teacher performance, student support services, libraries & information technology, student coun-
selling and wellbeing to mention just a few topics.
Your P&C association can assist in making a difference to how your child is educated and help them enjoy
their time at school, resulting in better performance in and out of the class room. Research has shown that
students whose parents are involved in their school (via their P&Cs), perform better academically and so-
cially.
Welcome back!! Hope everyone had a great holiday. This year we a pleased to announce that our P&C meetings will be held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (excluding holidays) with alternative day/night meetings. Our First Meeting for this year will be Tuesday 20th February @ 7.00pm in Cooinda. Attending P&C meetings are a great way of finding out what is happening within your child’s school. It is also a great way to make new friends and to be a part of our wonderful school community. We hope to see many more new faces, with our new alternative times. Our first event for the year is a School Disco to be held on Tuesday 20 March, keep an eye out for further details in the next coming weeks. We have an exciting calendar of events for the students as well as parents/carers to participate in such as: Easter Raffle - Mother’s Day Stall & Raffle - Bush Dance -Father’s Day Stall & Raffle -Mufti/Crazy Hair Day Camel Calendars - Christmas Raffle If you have any ideas, contacts etc, or would like an issue raised at a P&C meeting, please email the P&C on [email protected]

Assistant Principal Role
Mrs Kirkman, Mrs South, Mrs Moore and Mrs Dempsey all for part of the Executive of the school with me. At
times, they need to be off class to support school programs so that we can offer the students and families of
Empire Bay PS the best possible service and learning opportunities. Please be assured if your child is in one of
these teacher’s classes that the teacher taking the class is following the classroom program set out by the
Assistant Principal.
Change to Term 2 SDD
This is a reminder to families that the Term 2 SDD has been moved to the last day of this term (Friday, April
13th). This means students will NOT attend school on this date but WILL attend on Monday, 30th April.
Evacuation Drill
It is a requirement by the Education Department that all schools have regular evacuation drills so students,
teachers and visitors to the school know what to do in the event of a fire or some other danger. Next week,
we will have an evacuation drill. Your child’s class teacher will talk about this to the students so they know
what is expected of them when they hear an uninterrupted ringing of the bell. Everyone within the school at
that time will stop what they are doing and follow instructions to walk quietly up to the Oval.

Library Refurbishment
A big thank you to the P&C for donating the
money from last year’s 5c challenge to the
library. We have just purchased four rugs, eight
pebble poufs (little cushion seats) and four flexi
stools to add colour and comfort to our library.
I would love to hear from any parents who are
artistic or may have experience with interior
design as we have more plans to change the
décor and layout of the library.

Last Friday Domino shaved her head for The World’s Greatest Shave
helping families with blood cancer. She raised a total of $1700 and our
school community contributed $198 in gold coins towards her
fundraiser.
Domino, and her parents, Linda and Andre would like to thank everyone
for the marvellous effort and say they are very humbled by the support.
Domino bravely took on the challenge completely unprompted and we are
all very proud of her.
If you would like to support Domino’s fundraising efforts contributions can be made at

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
9th—12th April
The Red Shield Appeal runs over the months of April, May and June each year with the Red Shield
Doorknock taking place on the last weekend in May. This year the door knock will be the weekend of the
26-27th May. The SRC would like to support the cause so we are asking families to donate non- perishable
items such as tins of soup, vegetables, sauces, packets of rice and pasta, long life milk and juices, sugar, tea
and coffee, toothpaste and shampoo. The Red Shield Appeal helps provide 100,000 meals for the hungry
and hampers for those in need, at difficult times. During the last week of term One, 9th-12th April the SRC
will have a table set up in the mornings outside the school office to collect any donations. We will then
pass on our donations to the local Salvos for distribution.
Thanks SRC

Chapter 3 Jack stared at the small, wrinkled body lying on the white hospital stretcher. His Eyes filled with tears as he
looked at the blurred form of his sobbing sister. He walked backwards until his back touched the wall. He
slid down onto the floor and his mind went blank.
Walking home felt like a marathon. His brain was numb, and he could barely put one foot I front of
another.

The Working with Children procedures have changed. As from Jan 1, 2018 anyone who comes in contact with
children either in a school, sporting group, canteen or like situations are required by law to have a WWC#.
Volunteers are required to obtain a number from Services NSW, either by visiting an office, phoning 13 77 88 or
going online at https://www.service.nsw.edu.gov.au. There is no cost at this stage for the Volunteers number.
When you have received your number, please bring or email the original document to the school and we will
record the number and keep it on file. After March 2018 we will not be able to allow you into the classrooms etc.
until you provided us with a WWC#. The Department of Education also require that any visitors or volunteers to
the school sign in at the office on arrival and out on departure. Please collect and wear a Visitor lanyard while on
site. Thank you for your assistance in keeping your children safe.

Easter Hat Parade
It’s time to get creative. The school will be holding an Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 29th March from 11:35am
to 1:00pm under the COLA. Parents and Grandparents are welcome to attend. Pre-schoolers will also be able to
parade if time permits. Students are expected to stay at school after the parade.
Harmony Day
KA enjoyed celebrating Harmony Day with a visit from Mrs Mac Connell to talk about her American heritage.
Mrs Mac Connell made all of the children a cookie in the shape of the US and iced them in US flag colours. Thank
you for such a wonderful presentation. KA thoroughly enjoyed learning about America.
