Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to all students, teachers and families to the new school year. A very warm welcome is extended
to all our new students and their families. It is a pleasure having you join the Empire Bay PS community and we
look forward to your involvement in your child’s education and whole school initiatives. We are very excited to
have our new students who started ‘big school’ on Tuesday and we look forward to being able to take them on
their educational journey.
Funds allocated to our school for 2020
The Department of Education funding will assist in the following strategies to improve student outcomes:
• Jane Moore and Maxine South will continue as Curriculum Leaders working in classrooms collaboratively with
the teachers to ensure that our leadership team supports and promotes high quality programs.
• A team of support staff to further assist in the provision of differentiated instruction for those who need
small group or individual assistance with their learning.
• Purchasing of resources to ensure students have the best available tools to support and enhance their
learning, especially in the area of flexible learning spaces.
• Ongoing targeted teacher professional learning to ensure our teachers have the skills and knowledge to
maximise student learning potential.
• Teachers being allocated time each week to meet with their teams to ensure consistency in learning across
the grades and to develop high quality programs for the students. The Literacy and Numeracy teams will also
be allocated time to discuss and develop K – 6 programs to ensure consistency across K – 6.
• Further improving the outdoor areas of the school by enhancing gardens and outdoor learning areas.
School Swimming Carnival
The school swimming carnival was held at Peninsula Leisure Centre on Monday 3rd of February. It was a
wonderful day with great community spirit. Thank you to the organising teachers on Stage 2 for their effort and
to the parent support on the day. Congratulations to those students who will be heading off to the Zone
Carnival in March!
Parent Information Sessions and Parent Interviews
The teachers are looking forward to meeting parents and carers at the parent information sessions to be held
after school on Thursday, 13th February. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher
and get information about learning requirements, teacher expectations and what is planned for the year
ahead. Further information about this will be sent home shortly. Parent Interviews will be held throughout
Week 7 this term, starting Monday, 9th March.

Health Care Plans
If your child has a health condition that needs medication or specific management, parents are required to provide the school with a health care plan or asthma plan filled out in consultation with a doctor. They need to be renewed every year. Please contact the front office to update your child’s Health Care Plan. We would appreciate your immediate attention to these plans, so that we can be sure we have up-to-date information if your child needs assistance with a health issue.
Nut Allergies
There are several students at Empire Bay PS who have severe reactions to nuts. Therefore, it is advised that parents please do not send any nut products or food containing nuts to school with your children. We also ask that if your child is allergic to or has an intolerance towards certain foods that you speak to your child about not sharing any food with other students.

Calling for Volunteers —School Banking —We need your help in 2020.
P&C NEWS
TERM 1 WEEK 2 7 February 2020
Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help. The program requires a volunteer School Banking Co-ordinator to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. School Banking day is Tuesday, with our volunteer helpers working in teams of 2. If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please call or come into the office for more details. SCHOOL BANKING WILL COMMENCE TUESDAY 11TH FEBRUARY.
CANTEEN NEWS
We extend a warm welcome to all new families joining our school community, as well as welcome back families returning from last year.
So what is our P&C all about?
We are a group of parents, carers and school community members who work towards gaining additional resources and better facilities for our school.
At our meetings we find out first-hand from the Principal about the things happening at our school and have the opportunity to raise general school issues.
Our P&C is also responsible for running the school canteen.
How do you become a member?
To join our P&C you need to attend a P&C meeting and pay the $1 membership fee. Meetings are held twice a term with one in the day and one in the evening. Our meetings are advertised in the school Newsletter, on the School App and Facebook page.
Our next meeting: Tuesday 18th February, 1.15pm in the School Community Room
Coming events: March - School Disco (date to be confirmed) 17th March - P&C meeting 7pm 24th March - Think U Know Presentation 7pm
Please note our new online ordering cut off time is 8.30am. This is to assist our team in filling orders on time. We have also updated our menu with a few changes so please check these when placing your orders. Do you have one morning this term that you can spare? We need volunteers to keep our canteen open every day. If you can help please put your name down at the canteen or on our online roster at https://signup.zone/ebps-canteen-roster Shifts are usually from 9am - 12 with morning tea provided, but volunteering any time or frequency is most welcome. Enclosed shoes must be worn and all training is provided.

CHAPLAINCY 2020
Welcome back everyone. I hope you have all had a relaxing holiday and are refreshed for the exciting year ahead.
Chaplaincy programs outlined below will again be offered at our school. They have been designed to care for the well-being of
students and to teach them coping strategies for difficult moments in their life. If you would like your child to be enrolled in one of
these programs please see your child’s teacher or call the school so an appropriate referral can be made to the Learning Support
Team.
While many of the programs will be run in small groups students can be seen on an individual basis if the need arises. All referrals will
be treated confidentially and under the supervision of the Learning Support team. It is anticipated that groups will commence in
week 4 or 5.

“Your local AFL club, the Saratoga Hawks, are looking for boys and girls to join our Auskick (Kindy/Year 1) teams and our Under 9
Teams. We are also looking for girls between the ages of 11 and 17 to join our Youth Girls teams. Recent research has shown that kids
who play AFL are more likely to grow up with a positive body image, higher self-esteem, elevated levels of body strength and fitness
and overall better health. To secure your spot, register today by emailing [email protected] or go to the Saratoga Hawks
JAFC Facebook and Instagram pages for more details. Registrations close on February 16th.
Active Kids Vouchers accepted.”
