FLECK AND WITTGENSTEIN: SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE

The question of possible interrelations between the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and Ludwik Fleck’s comparative theory of science has not yet found the interest it deserves. As I will argue in this talk, a rapprochement between these two Ludwig / Ludwik makes sense with re-spect to the role of language in the construction of scientific knowledge. Whereas the importance of language in Wittgenstein’s philosophy has always been recognized and has been decisive in the tradition of analytical philosophy of science, it is less obvious for the thinking of Fleck — and nevertheless crucial, as I will argue.
