Principal’s Ponderings

Three Way Conferences

As previously communicated, the traditional Parent/Teacher

Interviews are being replaced by ‘Three Way Conferences’ (parents,

teacher and students) in week 9 of this term.

Next week detailed information will be forwarded to all parents/

caregivers outlining the process for them to make on-line bookings

for their child(rens) conferences. It is important that you look out for

this correspondence and seek assistance from the school if required.

Grandfriends’ Day

This morning our R-2 children and teachers celebrated their learning

with the students grandparents or special friends. It was wonderful

to see the delight on the faces of the young and not so young as they

interacted together. I’m sure a number of stories were shared about

‘what school was like in my time’.

Thank you to all who made this joyful community event happen.

Reconciliation Day Assembly

This Friday at 9.00 a special assembly will be held on ‘Reconciliation’.

All welcome to attend.

Andrew Messenger.

HEALTH INFO

The cold and flu season is almost upon us. To avoid the spread of coughs, colds and gastro

please keep children who are unwell at home. Children need to be kept home for 24 hours after

vomiting. Being struck down with a cold, the flu or is unpleasant and disruptive. You can reduce

the risk of getting sick or passing infections on to others by following these simple rules:

WASH your hands often

WIPE down surfaces

COVER your coughs and sneezes

It is also important to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, or handling food, until you have washed your hands. Avoid contact with others if

you are sick and if others are sick, keep your distance as much as possible.

On behalf of the Fundraising Committee we’d like to thank everyone who attended the Term 1 Celebration Disco and purchased tattoos! And special thanks to the many Mums who helped apply the hundreds of tattoos that we did over the day...Rachelle Polesso, Leya Knight, Kate Bourne, Jackie McCormack, Judy Borowski, Amanda Doonan, Bec Griffiths and Ashley Alver-Aicken! Together, the day raised $1154 and all the kids had LOTS of fun!! Monies raised will be shared between the SRC charity and upgrading our library resources!

And the great news continues...our Mother’s Day Stall raised $1315!! Thank you everyone for your support! We hope all the Mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day and liked their ‘surprises’! Special thanks to the wonderful Mums who organised and ran the Stall...Rachelle Polesso, Tamara Martin, Leya Knight, Kate Bourne, Jodie Mott and Ashley Alver-Aicken’

FUNDRAISING NEWS

Goodbye from I9

Grandfriends’ Day

Special Ed

In Week 2 some of our wonderful team of SSOs began sessions of Minilit with Yr 1 and 2 students who have been really struggling to make progress in literacy. Both the students and the SSOs seem to be enjoying the lessons so I hope we see growth in the students’ self esteem and belief in themselves as successful learners as well as some measurable evidence that they have made progress.

During Week 3 I attended training for the equivalent intervention, MacqLit aimed at Yrs 3-7. We will be screening low progress readers during Week 4 and hopefully starting the intervention in Week 5. If your children are to be included in the program we will be sending home information during Week 4. If you would like to know more please make a time to see me through the Front Office.

I would also like to formally welcome some new members to our Special Needs Team. Rachel Royle and Sue Flowers bring a range of great skills and experience gained in Queensland and England respectively, to our already awesome group of SSOs; Val Barker, Sue Ramsay, Sonya Millar, Ellie Miles and Amanda Davidson. These women all work with commitment and compassion for children from the Seaford Rise school community. Their focus is students identified as having learning difficulties, verified disabilities or other complex needs, and to support class teachers to adjust the learning for these students. Please make them feel welcome if you see them around the school.

Bronwyn is working in general class support for Reception teachers.

Finally from about Week 5 I will be organising meetings for Negotiated Education Plans (NEPs) with teachers and families so stay tuned.
