Siganos Siganos is a dance from Greece, from the island of Crete. It is an invitation dance at the beginning of the

evening. The song tells about the moon, the stars and of course about love.

Description of the dance:

Open circle, left hand at your own hip, right hand at the left arm from the partner in front of you

Measure 4/4

1-2 step right – touch left diagonally in front3-4 step left – touch right diagonally in front

1-2 step right – touch left diagonally backward3-4 step left – touch right diagonally backward

Düwelskermis (Germany)Düwelskermis (danza diavola, dance of the devil)is a new made dance at an old melody and it is played by Günther Gall and his orchestra. Günther Gall is a well known singer in the Lower-Rhine region in Germany. This is also the region of Kleve.The melody is with harmonics from the Middle Ages and influences of Ireland.

Description of the dance:Couples in a big circle, man at the left side of his partner.Everybody starts with the left foot and gives hands to each other.The dance starts after the melody of the flute, this is the invitation to choose a partner.

Oi kumuschki (Kazachstan)A dance from the Kubanje Cozzacks in Kazachstan. The Kuban is a river in Kazachstan. In the traditional Cozzacks

dances is always a competition between boys and girls. You can make this competition by steps (the men) or by shouting (the women).

This kind of dances are called „plyaska“ and they are for fun.Another kind of dances in Russia is „charavod“ but they are only danced by women in occasion of a wedding or a religious ceremony.

Translation of the song:O my dear friend, my dear chatterbox, love each other, love me.Go with me in the green meadow but do not speak about it with your friends.Because if you will tell it, I will hit you.

Description of the dance:Women start with A:8 x „wisselpas“ (rlr-lrl-rlr-lrl-rlr-lrl-rlr-lrl)to the other line of the women opposite.Give hands together and turn only ¼ in 8 littleSteps and then go backward in 8 little steps.

Jiana RumaniaJiana is a dance from Rumania and is danced in the two regions Transylvania and Oltenia. It is a

typical dance in little lines or circles at the mountainslopes of the Carpatian mountains. The song is a dialogue between girls and boys and during the last part of the dance they shout (ha – ha – haha).You can see the cloths they wear on the picture.

Description ot the dance:Linedance. Normally you cross the hands at the backside. Pa Mai (New Sealand)Pa mai from New Sealand is a well known action song, that means a song with movements of arm and hand. The

„WIRI“ movement is very important. It is a movement with your hand and it depicts the heat: the heat we can see in summer above the asphalt roadway. And it is a symbol of energy and life.The movement with your hand at your mouth symbolizes: do not say bad things about other persons.

This song is made during the Second World War and is purposed to stimulate young men to become a soldier.Everybody in New Sealand knows this song but the movements are different from place to place. Aotearoa is the Maori name of New Sealand. The name of the place Wanganui can be replaced by every other name.
