Christmas is coming early…Very early at Selfridges!

Yes, believe it or not Christmas shopping is underway in August! No this is not a hoax; Christmas shopping is underway right now.

Swapping Summer Mojitos for Mulled Wine, Oxford Street giants Selfridges unveiled the new and transformed fourth floor, now a 3000 Square Feet Winter Wonderland fitted with over 50,000 Christmas decorations. Even a Father Christmas was present at the scene.

Opening on the first of August it is the earliest of any retailer this year, and with plans to expand in the autumn period it is clear to see that Selfridges are taking the Christmas period very seriously indeed.

With 129 days to Christmas, those who are extra keen can prepare and head down today to the fourth floor to purchase nutcrackers, baubles and snow globes alike.

The demand of the Christmas consumer is clearly what has driven this early opening. Christmas sales at Selfridges in August were up 40% from 2014 to 2015 and with staunching statistics like this we could very well see a lot of other organisations do the same. There really does seem to be an opening for the early Christmas consumers.

Moreover it is interesting to make note of the tourism boom we have seen in the capital recently showing an 18% rise in the number of foreign tourists visiting the UK, this is supposedly a direct result from Brexit and the fall in the value of the Pound.

The foreign demand and increase in tourism has seen firms adapt and hoping to see visitors cash in on the lucrative Christmas market.

It may not please everybody seeing reindeer and elves in August but there is little we can do to stop it. The Christmas market is a massive growing snowball effect escalating all the way to the 25th December, and that snowball is firmly underway.
