Seminar: Tuesday, April 26, 2016 Location: Nicol Hall 2 nd floor Title: Austenitic 310-ODS (oxide dispersion strengthened) steel powder fabrication and characterization Speaker: Adam Brooks, MASc candidate 2016 [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. Zhongwen Yao [email protected] ABSTRACT: ! ODS materials seem very promising for high neutron flux, high temperature environments in next generation nuclear systems. The focus of this talk will be on developing a novel method using ultra-high pressure (UHP) cold sintering on the ODS steel powders, characterised using transmission electron microscope (TEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) with in-situ high temperature oxide precipitation observation in the bulk material. With the method being developed while I was on a research trip at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) last fall 2015. At the end of the talk, I’ll show some pictures of Beijing, China! Hear is a sneak peak of the very interesting microstructure that was developed: Hope to see you there! ^ CHEMiSTEM image of α-Fe +γ-Fe + α-Ni nano- crystallites before annealing from the UHP process on the 310-ODS powders.
