The HCG Story...The story of HCG began in the Fifties when, after having done research on weight loss for 40 years and research on HCG specifically for twenty years, Dr. Simeons reported that patients taking small amounts of HCG, in conjunction with a very low calorie diet, could lose weight safely and quickly, without exercise, hunger, irritability, muscle injury or weakness.

But all HCG is not created equal. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion created by products being sold without guidance that call themselves “HCG” but do not contain any in their ingredient list. HCG is one of 67 hormones naturally produced in the human body, so if a product states that it is hormone free; it is not HCG. Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol ought not to be followed without real HCG. The Pounds and Inches Away program starts with pharmaceutical HCG.

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is not a growth or sex hormone; it does not feminize men or masculinize women. It is not an appetite suppressant, stimulant or vitamin supplement. Nor does HCG produce weight loss by itself. However, in concert with a very specific balanced diet, and our help in avoiding unexpected environmental or behavioral deviations, HCG will allow the body to naturally pull the nutrients and calories needed from stored fat reserves into the blood stream at the rate of 1500 to 4000 calories per day.

We are sure that those who follow our protocol WILL lose 20-30 pounds in 40 days. These fantastic results ARE typical with our full service packages. The Pounds and Inches Away program is not your run of the mill “eat less and exercise more” diet for a slow loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week that seems to take the rest of your life. Our protocol tricks Mother Nature a little, maybe, however only natural processes are at work. Per Dr. Simeons, it is safe and so very effective.

Today an increasing number of dieters, many of whom had given up hope in their journey to lose weight, are turning to the Pounds and Inches Away Program to permanently lose unwanted weight. We are expert consultants, here to guide your weight loss experience from beginning to thin!

At Pounds and Inches Away, we are also excited to be able to offer Whole Body Vibration technology by Advanced Healthworks to help people reach their goals. Ten minutes on our “Jiggy” machine produces benefits comparable to those gained in a one-hour workout without the sweat and effort of traditional exercise. More than 700 medical studies have been published about the health benefits of Whole Body Vibration. These benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength and flexibility, better core conditioning, improved range of motion, enhanced metabolism, increased bone density, and more. The Whole Body Vibration technology has also been used to improve problems with osteoporosis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, incontinence, arthritis, Parkinson’s’ disease and other conditions. We encourage the use of these machines for their wonderful skin tightening effects.

We are excited to announce the opening of our Pounds and Inches Away Weight Loss Salon in Indianapolis near Castleton Square Mall. We are new to this area and are offering the products and support needed for success on the revolutionary HCG diet protocol developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons.

To get slim and stay that way, call our office at (317) 849-THIN today. We will help you reach your weight loss goals and improve your health, appearance and self-image. Nothing tastes as good as THIN feels…

Confidence is an ingredient in having good self-esteem. When people come in to improve their self-esteem we work on skills to develop more confidence.

Confidence is a quality that creates successful people. However, you do not need to initially experience success to build confidence despite the fact that most people believe you have to achieve to build the confidence. Instead I suggest that you have to believe.

People with low self-esteem aren’t able to identify areas of confidence therefore they hinder their own ability to achieve. This becomes a vicious cycle because when they don’t achieve they stop believing. When they don’t believe in themselves they stop conceiving ideas that contribute toward their own personal satisfaction.

How then does the average person increase their confidence quotient? The formula is simple, but developing the discipline to follow it requires structure. Take the following test and decide what areas you need to work on.

Personality Strengths: (circle all that apply to you)• Areyoupersistent?• Doyouhaveagoodimagination?• Doyoufocusonthepositives?• Doyourecognizeyourstrengths?• Doyouletothersknowaboutyour

admirablequalities?Environmental Structure:• Doyoufollowaroutinethatkeeps

youbalancedandstructured?• Doyouassociatewithsupportive

people?• Areyouencouragedbyothers?• Doyousetasidetimetoaccomplish

yourgoals?Self-Nurturance:• Areyouaself-encourager?• Doyouvisualizeyourself

accomplishingwhatyouwantinlife?• Doyouusepositiveselftalkthatshows

beliefinyourself?• Doyourecognizeandappreciate

yourattributes? If you have circled ten or more items, you have a great sense of confidence. If you circled six to nine, you need to look at the following recommendations and fit them into your life.

If you fell below five, you need to make this a number one priority in life.

–Develop a sense ofpersonalworth. If you grew up in a critical home, it’s imperative that you self-nurture. This means you must use positive self-talk and recognize your assets.

–Create an affirmation that identifies yourstrengthsandrepeatitnumeroustimesthroughouttheday.Initially, you don’t even have to 100% believe the affirmation. When you repeat a thought over and over it embeds positive messages in the brain. An affirmation may look like this: “I am a creative, imaginative person and I have everything it takes to be the person I want to be.”“I am a capable person and have all of the resources to live the life I deserve.”–Visualizeyourselfasacapable,confident,andcompetentperson.Whether it’s presenting at a meeting, organizing a fund-raiser for your child’s school, asking for a promotion, or losing that extra 15 lbs., visualize yourself going through the process, achieving your goals and being successful. Spend 30 seconds doing this daily.

–Focusonthepositivesinyourlife. Confident people focus on the positives and minimize the negatives. They give very little credence to obstacles and spend the majority of their time looking at what is going right in their life.

Now you have the formula. The most important thing is to implement it. Spend a few minutes deciding what steps you will need to take to create the confidence to be the person you want to be!

BRCA Gene MutationHow very powerful we are to be able to actually prevent cancer before a cure is ever needed. This is possible with genetic testing. Myriad Genetics offers a test called BRCA Analysis.

In 2008 the American Cancer Society reported that approximately 182,000 cases of breast cancer were diagnosed, resulting in 40,000 deaths. Ovarian cancer had approximately 22,000 new cases diagnosed in 2008 with close to 16,000 deaths. The goal for BRCA testing is that not one of our patients should needlessly suffer the devastating effects of cancer. This is why Dr. McLaughlin and his Nurse Practitioner, Kristi Marsella, individually assess and screen patients for their genetic risk for both breast and ovarian cancer.

If a patient is a carrier of the BRCA mutation their risk of breast cancer increases by 50% by age 50, 87% by age 70 and have a 44% risk of ovarian cancer by the age of 70. It is also important to be aware that if you are a carrier for the BRCA gene and a breast cancer survivor you have an increased risk (27% after 5 years and 64% by age 70) for a second breast cancer. (Lancet 1994, :343:692-695)

Certain “red flags” are identified for genetic testing for individuals with a personal or family history (1st

and 2nd degree). You can go to Myriad Genetics website to see if you would qualify for testing. Their website is www.myriad.com and click on the BRAC Analysis link to see if testing is right for you. Managing hereditary cancer risks are managed on an individual basis. Improved outcomes are found with proven medical interventions. Choices that are discussed with patients are surveillance, chemoprevention therapy and prophylactic surgery. Dr. McLaughlin and his staff work closely with the patients’ specialized healthcare team to manage their individualized care.

In 2009 ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) stated that “Evaluating a patients risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome should be a routine part of obstetric and gynecologic practice” (page 958, clinical management guidelines for obstetrics-gynecologist, number 103, April 2009). Dr. McLaughlin and Kristi Marsella, NP follow these guidelines and take a proactive, compassionate approach to managing this testing with patients. Please contact our office for on BRCA gene mutation testing.

Know your risks… change the outcome!

Life is a challenge! Especially in today’s world. Who do you know that has had the following experience?

You have worked in the same industry for 20 years. You love what you do and have been able to make a very good income. It has afforded you to get the kids those extras and even take annual family vacations. You haven’t been able to put as much into savings in recent years, but you know you will get back on track. Then it happens. You get notice that the company has been hit hard by the economy and they are eliminating your position. You never saw it coming. And then they remind you that you signed a non-compete so you will need to find a position doing something entirely different! Wow! Not what you expected or planned for. What do you do? How will the family survive in the short term? What if it turns into the long term like so many of your friends?

I feel sad and have such a strong desire to help when I meet someone who has had this or a similar experience. They seem to

just be wandering about, unsure of where they want to go or what they want to do or even who they want to be. They are usually good people with great potential who at one time or another were very successful. They had dreams and goals. But now they have met opposition and hardship and are mistaking them for defeat. They have lost hope, confidence and even motivation.

What do I do? I partner with a company that specializes in helping people reclaim their life…to work for themselves, but not by themselves. I help those who no longer want to be owned by their company and their boss so they can have choices in their life. If you want to create financial security and have peace of mind, call me.

Women Changing Lives, partners with moms and women (and yes, dads and men, too) to achieve life balance and financial security. To learn more how we can help you change your life, go to www.WomenChangingLives.net or call Karen today at 317-828-3061.

My day begins with a delicious, strong cup of coffee (or two) and a quiet time.  These times are early, most often before the sun comes peeking through pearly clouds and shining in my kitchen window.  They have become more special to me as the years have passed.  One morning, I was looking out the picture window in our family room, during such a time, lost in my thoughts and prayers.  I noticed as the sun came up that a large snow had fallen through the night.  It was a beautiful wet snow, stuck on everything in sight.  Our popular bird feeder was covered.  It is a feeder that consists of a long, clear tube with holes in the sides all around and a perch at every hole.  There is a dish at the bottom for the birds to gather and rest.  I noticed that the seven inches of snow was piled high all around the dish of the bird feeder, so high that none of the food was accessible to any of the birds.  I then noticed our resident redbird fly to the feeder and start to hop all around the sides of the feeder, knocking off the wall of snow which had accumulated.  It took him quite some time and a tremendous effort to hop round and round knocking off the snow as he went.  I thought to myself, he must be very hungry to be so aggressively knocking off the snow and getting cold and wet in the process.  As I watched him finish the job, much to my surprise, he jumped off without eating a morsel and allowed all the other small birds, who were waiting, to eat first.  After the small birds had finished, he flew back and started to eat.  It was such a simple, selfless act from a brilliantly red bird, but I have not forgotten this example of how we should live.  For whom will you brush off the snow?  I am sure that you have loved ones you care about and for whom you want to provide, even after you are gone.  One of the best ways to do that is to make sure your estate is in order.  It, too, is a relatively simple, selfless and inexpensive process when you see the right legal professional, an attorney who has concentrated his or her law practice on estate planning.  After this work

is complete, you will be surprised at the peace you will feel, knowing that you have taken care of your loved ones, brushed off the snow for them, so to speak.  Only then, can you turn your heart and mind to the things in this life that are truly important to leave behind. by Marti Starkey

Linda Rendleman, M.S., Founder Business Women ConnectLinda Rendleman, M.S., Founder Business Women Connect

It starts at the very beginning. It starts as your day begins. It starts when

you first open your eyes to another day. It starts with taking care of you.

FORGET THE ALARM CLOCKResearch shows that the way you start your day sets the pace for how your day will go. In addition, this begins from the very moment you hear your alarm. In fact, that is a great place to make the first change. Some believe that the alarm cre-ates the first stress of the day merely by the sound of it and the jolt it brings to our senses when it blasts off each morn-ing. Get to bed a little earlier and set your mental clock for waking at the same time each morning. At least set the alarm to soothing music that floats into your awareness for a gentler reminder of the morning light.

GET QUIET TIMEArrange for quiet and reflective time. What? You say. Quiet time in the morn-ing with three kids, a dog, a husband who travels for his job and my own job? Yes, I did say quiet time. In addition, here is how you get it. Get up earlier. Get up earlier. Get up earlier. Lying in bed is not what it is cracked up to be. Rising 30 min-utes before anyone else while the house is still quiet not only helps you start your day a little ahead, but also makes you a more pleasant person to greet your fam-ily as they shake off the nights sleep. You trade 30 minutes of sleep for a smoother start to your day and a smile on your face for your family.

CENTER YOURSELFYou are up 30 minutes earlier and this is your time. Taking a minimum of even 5

minutes to getting centered goes a long way toward setting the tone for a day of less stress, no matter what problems may come your way.

Centering can take on many forms. Something that works well for me is a brief reading of something inspirational or motivational. Other forms of center-ing could be saying a prayer, a brief medi-tation, journal writing, stretching exer-cises or simply quiet reflection with a hot cup of tea or coffee. The point here, the centering activity can be whatever works for you. And if you allow yourself this centering time, the wonderful reward is

that you will notice a difference in the quality of your day and the way you react to stresses as they arise. You will look forward to your morning time each day.

Here is the biggest tip of all to making the above happen in your day. Go easy on yourself. Do not make this plan for the first 30 minutes of your day be a chore. You will not stick to it if you do. Do not make it a part of your TO DO list. Make it a part of your self-nurturing and your right because you love yourself. Make it easy. Make it simple. This is not a challenge, a goal, a task to add to your day. Starting your day with joy and peace is a gift you give yourself.

In an effort to enhance physician availability and customer service, ProScan Imaging is pleased to announce the addition of two new staff radiologists – Dr. James Joseph and Dr. Sunah Kim. Both physicians bring a wealth of experience, as well as a record of professional excellence to their new roles at ProScan.

Board-certified since 2003, Dr. Joseph is a ProScan Imaging Education Foundation (PIEF) fellowship-trained radiologist. He has completed extensive fellowship training from the PIEF and the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology in musculoskeletal, neurological, and body MRI – providing the Indianapolis area with increased sub-specialty imaging expertise.

An Indiana native, Dr. Kim graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine and became a board-certified radiologist in 2009. With fellowship training in body imaging, including MRI, CT, and ultrasound of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and musculoskeletal MRI at the Boston Medical Center, she offers referring physicians and their patients a full spectrum of

imaging experience.

“We are very proud of the recent addition of Dr. James Joseph and Dr. Sunah Kim to the Indianapolis market,” comments Shelly Starr, Imaging Facility Manager of the three ProScan Indianapolis locations. “Their daily presence will allow us to offer more services at each of our centers, while strengthening our already great customer service.”

Dr. Joseph will be a full-time radiologist at ProScan Imaging Carmel while Dr. Kim will be part-time servicing the ProScan Imaging Avon location.

With these latest personnel additions, ProScan Imaging will be able to continue its patient-centric focus by providing exceptional quality at an exceptional price – with patient savings up to 75% when compared to a hospital affiliated facility.
