SEPTEMBER 2016 Probus Club of Mountain View Our Strength is Fellowship, our Success is Participation President’s Message Welcome back to our 2016-2017 season. In June, when Sylvia Head passed the President’s mantle to me, I spoke of the tag line on the Probus banner: “Fellowship is our Strength, and Participation is our Success”. From the feedback I received, it seems that the part of the message that many of you heard was from Mother Theresa: ‘Fellowship happens when you serve your fellow man, you get kicked in the teeth, and you serve him again”. We are fortunate as members of Probus Mountain View to have many members who are consistently stepping up and serving us. In late June, we had our fourth successful Annual Golf Tournament followed in July by a very successful Pirate theme BBQ. Young Heart’s music and the activities made for an enjoyable night. We thank all of you who were involved in the success of these events. In total 20 to 30 of us made both events happen and close to 250 attendees enjoyed the outcome. In September we embark on our fifth season as Probus of Mountain View. I plan to continue to explore the concept of fellowship as our key to increasing the strength of our club, and thus the success of our club. Robert Ingersoll said: “We raise ourselves up when we lift others higher”. A metric we can use to measure our progress and our strength is our ability to “raise ourselves up”. I would not bring this up if I did not have a plan. Come to this month’s General Meeting and find out who Robert Ingersoll was, and what I believe is good plan for Probus Mountain View. Looking forward to seeing you in September, Bill Meldrum GENERAL MEETING - SEPTEMBER 8 th 9:30 AM Mingle Meeting starts @ 9:45 AM Sharp!
