4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.

A New Look for the Cloverpatch

The Cloverpatch is an important communication link for members, parents, leaders andothers within our communities. We have made some changes to keep up with postal ser-vice and budget changes and will be placing additional information at our website, http://www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/rock/4h/index.html, or referring you to the Wisconsin 4-H web-site, http://www.uwex.edu/ces/4h/. Be sure to check out these websites so you are fa-

miliar with them or call the UWEX Office at 757-5690.

    Club News from Badger 4-H

Badger 4-H is proud to announce that our Music and Drama Group performed at State Fairand received Merit Awards for their outstanding work in the play. Also, thank you to all whowatched our play at the Rock County Fair. Congratulations to our actors and actresses!

This year our Youth Leadership project members participated in the county-wide Youth Lead-ership contest and we took third place. We also entered our DVD, which describes our New

Family Mentoring Program, in the fair and received the trophy. Congratulations to all whoparticipated!

August was a busy month for our club. We held a lock-in at Camp Rotamer. Everyone had lotsof fun toasting marshmallows, eating s'mores and playing games around the campfire. Weheld a Record Book Workshop to help our new members with their record books and insteadof our regular meeting we had a Club Picnic in Palmer Park.

Also in August our club helped with sorting, counting and packing school supplies into back-packs for ECHO. The backpacks go to the less fortunate in our community. Thank you toeveryone who helped or donated school supplies!

Wanted 4-H Youth and AdultsThe 4-H After School Program is a muchsought out extra curricular offering byschools. The local schools see the benefitsof hands-on learning that 4-H has usedfor over 100 years. This year Rock County4-H is expanding its 4-H After-school Pro-gram. We will still be in four elementaryschools in Beloit, Edison Middle School inJanesville and our newest program will beat the J.C. McKenna Middle School inEvansville. This year because of graciousgrants from Metlife and Walmart, the 4-HAfter-school program will be emphasizingHealtly Life Styles, Citizenship, along withenrichment classes.

One of the reasons why the Rock County4-H After-school program has been so suc-

cessful is the great volunteers that havedonated their time to help lead projects. In the past youth leaders who volunteeredfound that the after school program gavethem a great opportunity to share theirinterests and talents with a new audience. In return they have taken their after

school experience and turned it into theiryouth leadership project that has beenhighly praised when they present them atfair or as part of their member evaluation

forms. 4-H members who are educationalmajors discovered the after-school experi-ence helped them shape their career goalsand gave them experience that other stu-dents did not have. Adults who have volun-teered found that this gave them a differ-ent perspective of what 4-H is and theimpact it can have on a young persons life.

There are opportunities for short term and

long term volunteers. If you are inter-ested in this opportunity of sharing yourtalents and interests, please call DonnaDuerst, Rock County Youth DevelopmentAgent or Sally Reisem, AmeriCorps Vista,at 757-5690. Informational and planningmeetings are being formed now that youwill not want to miss.
