SCHOOL HACKS

You can use bread as an eraser.

Bring water to every class.

After you finish an essay, copy

and paste it into Google translate

and then listen to it because as

you hear it read aloud, it makes

it easy to find mistakes.

Peppermint simulates the brain

and helps with concentration.

Eating chocolate while studying

helps the brain retain

information easy.

RECAP PAGE

In the month of August, we had an amaz-

ing pep rally to get us excited about the

school year. There are also 3 new teach-

ers who are super excited about this year.

Mr. Lanford said that so far this year,

“Teaching at SAA has rekindled my love

for teaching.” Mr. Silva and Mrs. Hedrick

both said, “The students are awesome,

enthusiastic, and ready to learn.” Did

you know Mr. Brown has been to 4 hospi-

tals over 106 days. 25 of those days were

spent in a coma and 10 days were in a

trauma center. He had 9 different am-

bulances, three amputated toes, a punc-

tured lung, 213 fractures, including a

broken neck and a broken back. A heli-

copter took 1 hour and 15 minutes to fly

from San Diego, California to Salt Lake

City! Mr. Brown has died 5 times already!

We also had soccer and volleyball tryouts.

What is student of the month?

Student of the month is a stu-

dent chosen by all of the teach-

ers. There is a theme for each

month; this month’s was em-

pathy. Every teacher had one

in their room. If you want to be

this person, you have to show a

great example to teachers and

students.

7th Grade Student Spotlight

Jazlyn Mayer

When Jazlyn graduates college, she wants to become an artist

so she can paint and sketch. Her favorite class is gym because she

can learn to play different sports. She loves the movie The Greatest

Showman because of Zendaya and the catchy songs. If she could

have 3 wishes she would wish for straight A’s to get a good scholar-

ship, a good job as an artist so she can make enough money to have

a good home, and last but not least, she wants her parents to let her

dye her hair.

Brody Dickson

When Brody graduates, he wants to become a lawyer so he can help

foster kids find forever families. He loves the book Wonder because it has

a great moral theme and good characters. Out of school, he likes to do

karate to teach him balance and discipline and focus. If he could have 2

wishes, they would be a Mini Cooper to drive him to Colorado to live

there and to meet his favorite actor, Maxwell Jenkins. Finally, he loves

this school because he loves the no tolerance for bullying rule.

Page 7: SEPTEMBER - Syracuse Arts Academy

Khaliyah Bryant

She is new to our school this year;

she moved here from Miami. If she

could meet anyone, dead or alive, it

would be Aretha Franklin because

she grew up listening to her music

with her grandparents. She loves to

draw sunsets and talk with her

friends back in Miami in her free

time. If she could be anywhere else

right now, it would be hanging out at

Dave & Buster's with her “squad.” Her

role model is her Aunt because she

helps lots of people, survived breast

cancer, and is a police officer. Of

course Mrs. Read is her favorite teach-

er because she is so much fun. Some-

thing that she likes about our school is

that we have Sriracha in our lunch

room. If you see her, you could ask her

to show you her “party trick”; she can

flip the tip of her tongue back. It’s su-

per cool! But just don’t go around pok-

ing her; she doesn’t like that very

much!

Brent Earl

He is also new to our school! If

he could meet anyone, dead or

alive, it would be Thomas Edison

because he is a great inventor and

his role model. Something really

interesting about him is he loves to

code because it’s really fun and

something that he wants to do

when he grows up. If you’re won-

dering what coding is, go find him;

he’ll probably be happy to tell you

all about it. He also likes to play

soccer and badminton. Something

that he likes about our school is

that everyone is so nice and wel-

coming. His favorite class is science

because he likes to know how and

why things work. If he could be an-

ywhere else right now it would be

at home spending time with his

family.

Paige Stoneham

You may not know much about Paige. Here

are some things about her. Her favorite subject in

school is band; she plays the violin and trom-

bone. She loves spending time with her birds. Her

favorite book is the Goosebumps series. Her favor-

ite movie is Princess and the Frog because it was

her first Disney movie.

Daniel Prior

You may not know Daniel. Here are some things

about him. His favorite subject in school in ce-

ramics because it is fun. He likes to play games

on his phone, like Minecraft. His favorite book is

Wings of Fire. His favorite movie is The Meg be-

cause it is intense, and he likes sharks.

September Faculty Spotlight

Mr. Silva

Mr. Silva is a new teacher this year. He

teaches keyboarding, business and market-

ing, and career explorations. On his free

time, he likes to do martial arts. His perfect

weekend looks like having no work to do and

spending time with his family. If he could

meet anyone, dead or alive, he would want

to meet John F. Kennedy. His biggest role

model is Theodore Roosevelt. His life motto is

Winston Churchill's 3-word speech:

“Never give in”

Welcome Back Message

From Mr. Pfister

9/4/2018

Greetings Dragons and welcome back to

school. I will keep this very short. If this year

is going to be a great one, it begins with YOU!

Each day is a new opportunity to change for

the better and improve. If you made mistakes

yesterday, learn from those mistakes and

make a commitment to not repeat them. The

only way our school gets better is if each one of

us gets better day by day.

I promise to follow my own advice.

I am here to help and support you and our

wonderful teachers. Please allow me that

privilege. Ask for help when you need it and

we will make this the best year ever here at

Syracuse Arts Academy.

Sincerely,

Mr. Pfister

A message from student government

From Presley Whitesides

9/10/2018

Some tips for the new students: Always be outgoing and

kind; the more you put yourself out there, then you

will have a better chance to make friends. Always be

kind no matter what. For all those people who are in-

terested, don’t forget to… SMILE. Every moment leads

up to people deciding if you would be a good student

leader. You need to always be kind no matter what.

Stay positive and smile as much as you can; you can

change so much with just a smile, and that is so im-

portant to become a Student Leader. Why is SGO im-

portant? Because every person in this school deserves

to be represented, and that is why they do what they

do. Student government is such a necessary part to our

school. Some of the things that SGOs do are service pro-

jects and tons of fundraisers for the school, and it is so

important that they do these things so that we have

the resources that we need to learn and grow properly.

Some of the responsibilities of the SGOs are to run

meetings, plan events, run events, and work all of the

school-sponsored events and sport events and help the

students with all that they need to navigate the school.

?ASK FORTIS?

When in doubt, ask Fortis. Need advice? Ask Fortis. Sometimes you just need a lit-

tle advise, ask Fortis works as a helping hand when you need a little extra help. All

questions are anonymous.

Question 1. "I sweat so much from gym class, and I am basically soaked after.

What should I do?"

Answer: Bring a rag or a towel with you, or just use your gym shirt afterwards to

wipe off your body. Also be sure to use lots of deodorant;,if you smell, people are

too polite to tell you.

Question 2. "I'm always so un-organized, and it makes me stressed. It's hard to fo-

cus on school when I have so much to do. Any thoughts?"

Answer: Make a checklist of all the things you have to do throughout the day,

When completing something, check it off and move on to the next one.

Question 3.Every time I'm around my crush, I always have to fart. I'm really nerv-

ous that one day I might just let it slip. PLEASE HELP ME?!

Answer: Well maybe you could learn some calming techniques and pretend like

he/she is just like everyone else around you.

Question 4.I feel like I am losing all my friends, and I don't know what to do. Any-

thing?

Answer: Ask your friends about their day, and support them in the things they do.

Always be there for them and present yourself as a trusting person. This will make

them feel even closer to you and realize they would not want to lose a friend like

you.

Question 5: I'm always so shy around everyone. I try to overcome it, but I can't.

What would help?

Answer: Everyday, push yourself to say hi to someone in the hallways. After a

while, it will come easy to you. Then you can take a bigger jump and sit by some-

one you have always wanted sit by. Eventually, you will start getting more confi-

dent.

Want to be next? Be sure to put your questions without your name in the box

by the office labeled, ASK FORTIS.
