SEREN.

Page 2: Seren

Seren comes from an artis-tic and fashion based back-ground and relies mainly on imagery to portray informa-

tion to the reader. This pub-lication is very close to my

heart as most of the image-ry comes from the country-side in which I grew up and spent the best years of my

life. This magazine is my way to show you the wonders of my youth and of the magical

Northumbrian countryside.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

THE BLOGGER

In the wonderful world of the web there is a new craze, a good craze, a creative craze. Bloggers. You can blog about anything you like, but this particular blog I am talking about is about the fanatical world of fashion. People forget that “Fashion” doesn’t necessarily mean clothes. There is a fashion to absolute-ly everything and every one on the planet. The Serendipity Dia-ry blog looks at the bigger pic-ture, it finds inspiration in life’s ordinary things. It sees the extraordinary in the ordinary.

NORTH EAST TREATSNewcastle Upon-Tyne, the friendly city.

Fashion: Casual, Comfortable & laid back.

Newcastle is a relaxed city with relaxed people. People dress for the weather and when i asked the question, ‘would you rather have fashion or function?’ these were the replies.

DANIEL BUREN @ THE BALTIC - NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

9.

Page 13: Seren

Daniel Buren’s exhibition at the Baltic was a very inspiring thing to do. The natural rays of light that the sun gives out are already so beautiful that basing an art piece around it seems as if it would be impossible for anyone to dislike it. Walking around the exhibition with the reflections of light and the warm colours gave a feeling of safety and security. It was a nice place just to be.

MONO PRINTING

17.

Page 21: Seren

Mono-printing is a really good way to ex-periment with prints. Sometimes it is easy to forget that you don’t have to just draw everything. Experiment with different ma-terials and natural and synthetic objects. There will be a lot of bad prints, but with every bad print comes a new learning curve and if you spend some time and effort you come out with some beautiful prints. For mono printing you will need: Paint, a roller to roll paint, a roller to roll paper (one that wont get any paint on it), paper and whatever objects you desire!

27.

The inspiration for the A/W 2015 collection came from the feeling of belonging, home and safety. The colour palette has a soft feel to it which is almost dream-like and although some of the colours are bright, they still feel warm and soft. This collection used a mixture of natural and man made fabrics to play with layering and embellishment such as the stitched on pieces of fabric in squares that can be seen on some of the dresses in the collection. Wraps and twists feature heavily in all the pieces with scarf necks on dresses and tops and twisted fabric on a lot of the pieces. This links in with the theme of “safety” very well as a narrative because when the garments are worn they can be adjusted to the wearers wants and needs and how protect-ed they need to feel from the elements. Prints are adorned on small pieces of cloth that are attached to the garments which creates texture and allows the beautiful natural prints to stand out from the pieces themselves.

This is the collection for dreamers and dreamers a like.
