He had served for eight years as Assistant Chaplain of Eas- tern N. C. Sanitorium in Wilson. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Limestone Col- lege in Gaffney, S.C. He .served in the Volunteer 'Crisis Center in Wilson. Mr. Holmes had served on the General Board of the N.C. 4 Baptist convention and had served as modera- tor of the old Roanoke As- · sociation. Mr. Holmes was a graduate of Howard Col- lege in Birmingham, Ala., and of the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louis- ville, Ky. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as chaplain in the U.S. Army, and was a Mason. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Frank N. Crews, Jr., of South Bos- ton, Va., and Mrs. Bernice B. Turnage of Farmville· . ' one sister, Mrs. W. B. Cal- houn of Montgomery, Ala.; three brothers, Al- bert Holmes of Montgom- ery, Ala., Leon Holmes of Macon, Ga., and Walter Holmes of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Sam Wells, Nick Wilson Harris Arthur Joyner, Jr., Tolli~ Epps, C. C. Moss and the Rev. Bob Miller.

Services Held Friday For Earl W. Holmes

The Rev. Rev. Holmes Is Guest Minister

The Rev. Earl W. Holmes of Wilson will be the guest p:eacher for 11 a .m. worship services Sunday at First Ba lat Cturch, the pastor, the R. Bussey, has announced.

An Alabama native, the Rev. 1 Mr. Holmes was ordained to the

ministry in 1916. He holds both A. B. and M. A. degrees from Samford University, Bir-mingham, Ala. and the Th.M. degree from Southern Baptist

1 Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was a chaplain in the

United States Army in World War I. He has pastored churches in Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina.

His service includes a seven-year stint as associate chaplain at the Eastern North carolina Hospital, and, in retirement, he has served as an interim pastor in 10 churches in some six years.
