An activity that I enjoyed doing. And
how it contributes my personal and
professional life
Shabrina Koeswologito
Travelling has always been in
my childhood calendar
activities in my family.
However the 1st time I
traveled without family to
foreign country was when I’m
11 years old. Participating in
an exchange program from
CISV in Sweden.
A month experiences had
opened my eyes to a more
rich and interesting culture.
Made friends with peoples from 10
different countries
Learn to adapt local custom and activities
Made my first international friends. Whom we still
keep in contact until today, thanks to technology
At the age 13, when most of my friends were
busy with school projects and spent their weekend hangout with
friends in the mall, I learnt how to delegate
and work in a team consists peoples from different nationalities.
Living outside of Indonesia has always been
my dream. Getting there is hard. First, there’s
not many information online/offline regarding
scholarship aboard. Second, the culture of
student spent a year abroad to finish high
school abroad is still new.
My application was rejected at first. Of course
I demand an explanation. When the judge see
my determination to get to the program, they
decided to accept me. From here on, I know
that it is not a matter of how smart you are but
how much you badly wanted it; and would go
the extra mile to get it.
Welcome to USA! where you would
find teenage life in films
not as accurate as it
looks5 things an exchange student would know…..
People’s stares don’t bother you anymore
You sign up with as many extra activities in school
you can
You attend all the local festival or celebration in your host
country
You spend a lot of time smiling and trying to say Hi to someone sit beside you at class
You’re first friend are other exchange student
In college I experienced my first internshipabroad. Joined an intern program fromAIESEC Manila to help local hospital raisefund for a concert. Goal is to have enoughmoney to buy an early AIDS detectormachine.
This experience pushed me to work inforeign country without directsupervision. Some of the activities myteam had to do was making cold calls, made proposal, and try to get a meetingwith them. My biggest achievement waswhen the meeting I scheduled led to
become the main sponsor of ourevent.
Solo voice of Zomatoprior launch in
Indonesia
Being a part of the core launching team for Zomato ID, theteam knows we’re in a tight deadline. Collecting and uploading12,000 restaurants information in less than a month is not aneasy task. Considering the other technical part we have tosolve, which is the Bahasa translation for our website. As I’mappointed as POC to handled all Bahasa translation directlyfrom India; had made me realize; when you’ve asked to be in astartup that plan to open 6 new markets in 1 day, you don’task questions. You get on fast.
When HeyShabrina.com has accelerated my network among Jakarta’s well-known travel and food blogger
The purpose of heyshabrina.com was to share my love on travel. Yet, it opened up manywindows of opportunities. Several articles I’ve written has been published by Jakarta’s leadingnews portal. However, the best think is I got to know many like minded people in travelcommunity and keep learning from them.
Now when people asks what is my next project. I
would proudly said: To build a travel community in
Indonesia, starting with building my own
backpacker hostel.
Thank You.
