Even though the drought conditions had forced a ban on all fireworks in Travis County this year, it didn’t put a damper on the festivities at Shady Hollow. e fun began at 7:30 Monday morning with the annual 4th of July 5K run. Dozens of contestants of all ages attended the Fun Run. At 10:00 AM hundreds gathered along Capistrano and Saddle Mountain for the annual July 4th Parade. Participants from the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Pack 82 Cub Scouts, Shady Hollow Sting Rays and Barracudas swim teams, VFW, Antique car club, Fire Department,Travis County Constable’s office and general public all participated in the parade. e parade ended up at Capistrano park and pool where, all participated in the pledge of allegiance led byTexas House representative Paul Workman and Constable Deputy Ken Rush. is was followed by everyone singing our National Anthem and other patriotic songs. Next we were treated to square dances, three on three basket ball competition and swimming pool games. Refreshments were available through the Cub Scouts, and sno-cones through the Kiwanis Club, and free watermelon and ice cream was provided by the Shady Hollow HOA. e event lasted until about 3:00 with fun being had by all. A special thanks go out to all the many volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success.
