EMPLOYEE NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2019 SFPC WELCOME CABINET DECISION ON LIMERICK TO FOYNES ROAD STAFF APPOINTMENTS 2020 ART EXHIBITIONS SCHEDULED FOR THE SAILORS HOME RIP’S NEW ARRIVALS EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK 2019 INTRODUCING THE NEW SHANNON FOYNES PORT COMPANY LOGO At the recent Shannon Chamber of Commerce’s President’s lunch, held in Dromoland Castle, Pat Keating and Jerry Hallissey, had a very constructive meeting with Professor John Fitzgerald, Chair of the Climate Change Advisory Council. Professor Fitzgerald was briefed regarding the ports activities in relation to both onshore and offshore wind energy and potential new shipping routes that could yield carbon benefits to our industrial heartland. We would like to introduce our new company logo. During the process of considering a new logo we had to explore shapes, fonts and colour options. In the new logo you can see the prominent colours are blue and green. The green of the logo represents the lush green landscapes enveloping the estuary while also representing the counties of Kerry and Limerick. The blue represents the blue of the Atlantic and also the county of Clare. The vibrant green also suggest an environmentally friendly and proactive company and the deep blue represents the deep history of the Shannon estuary and its ports. The logo will be rolled out across our companies platforms from January 2020. We are currently in the process of developing a new website which will be launched in April. A number of amendments were applied to the employee handbook following a review in 2019 which include, but are not limited to, minor changes to procedures associated with paternity leave, parental leave, disciplinary, equality and diversity. Each employee should receive a hard copy of the updated handbook and a soft copy will be posted on the SFPC Intranet as normal. Please contact your Supervisor and/or Manager if you have any questions relating to the handbook. This Government’s approval in October of the €447m Limerick to Foynes road is very much welcomed and will certainly be a game changer for us in our development as a Tier 1 major international port. The Government confirmed that “This proposed road scheme will deliver many benefits for the Mid-West region and for the Port of Foynes, which is a designated Tier 1 Port of national significance “ and went on to acknowledge that “The provision of a high-quality dual carriageway link between Shannon- Foynes Port and the M21 at Rathkeale can facilitate further growth and expansion of the Port, leading to increased economic activity in the region and further employment opportunities.” . The Road Scheme has now been submitted to An Bord Pleanála for planning permission. With regard to trading performance, 2019 has again been a very solid year where tonnage throughputs at both Limerick and Foynes ports continued to operate at close to historical highs. While we are already experiencing the transition to a low carbon economy, with for example, the substantial reduction in coal for power generation, we are also positioning ourselves to take advantage of the likely increase in port traffic arsing from the the growth in renewables and by more aggressively promoting our competitive advantages in the market place. Accordingly, it is essential that we continue to invest in the business and on the back of relatively recent land acquisition and port side developments, we will again embark on major investments in 2020. Procurement for the next phase of the Foynes Welcome to Mark Connolly who joined the SFPC Business Development team in May this year. Mark’s position is an important new role to build on and enhance existing relationships within the customer base and equally to assist in identifying new business potential and to develop new customer relationships therefrom. Welcome to Jerry Hallissey, who has joined the team as Head of Business Development on a fixed term contract. Jerry will focus on specific projects within the organisation and we wish him all the best in this very important function. 30 Apr – 25 Aug 2020 European Investment Bank in Luxembourg will showcase their works. 25 Aug – 27 Nov 2020 EVA International Exhibition. Seán decided to pursue an opportunity with Bluewater Capital within the region in October this year and we wish him every success with his new endeavours. Development, the joining of the East and West jetty, is practically complete and we expect contractors on site first quarter 2020.. With regard to Limerick Port, we are continuing to engage with Limerick City Council in order to improve access to the working port in accordance with our Limerick Docklands strategy. In the Autumn we received planning permission to facilitate a floating data centre in Limerick docks, projects such as this also highlight the more diverse role ports can play in the wider green agenda. This month we also received planning consent to refurbish the 40k ft2 Bannatyne’s Mills building. These projects are set to add new revenue streams enabling us to build on our extensive capital program. This program will assist in delivering some of our key growth objectives such as developing SFPC as the national bulk port of choice, establishing it as a core national freight hub and the preferred deep water port for the offshore floating wind sector in Ireland. As we enter a new decade it is also useful to acknowledge the successes of this one, of which there were many, too many to mention here but I would like to thank sincerely all our employees, our customers, our service providers and the Department of Transport for their commitment and support along the way. A lot done but a lot more to do. Finally, I would like to wish you and your families a very happy, peaceful and safe Christmas. Pat Shannon Foynes Port Company, Mill House, Foynes, Co.
