For an unforgettable cultural experience why not take a day off the slopes to see the world famous Jigokudani

wild monkey hot springs, home to about 200 wild monkeys who spend their days soaking in the natural hot

springs, keeping warm from the harsh winter conditions. The park was opened in 1964 and is considered to

be the only place in the world to see snow monkeys bathing in the wild. To get to the Jigokudani wild monkey

hot springs from Shiga Kogen catch the Nagaden bus from one of the many bus stops down to the base of

Shiga Kogen and get off at the Kanbayashi Onsen Guichi bus stop. From here you will have to hike up into the

Jigokudani valley to experience the monkeys and this will take approximately 30 to 40 minutes each way.

Shuttle buses operate

throughout the 19 resorts

of Shiga Kogen and this

is a complimentary

service for anyone who

has a Shiga Kogen lift

pass. The service operates

from 08:30 to 17:30

daily. In order to ski the

entire resort it can take

up to a couple of days

therefore if you wish to

ski a particular area then

taking the resort shuttle is

the quickest and most

ef�cient option.
