Boulder Creek Park and Auditorium.

This project focused on creating a park for sporting elds and activities. This process was approached by creating an abstract geometric illustration. This illustration was imposed onto the site, creating a base for the layout of the program to come into existence. The program was integrated while trying to maintain the essence of the abstraction. The park was to include ten various features, including playgrounds, sporting courts, climbing walls, skate park and picnic pavilions.

The Auditorium was designed after the park was complete. It was to be placed on the North East corner of the park. It was to seat 150 and house a small cafe and various multipurpose areas for public use. The auditorium was split with the ground level for public use, and the other levels for the use of the

A restaurant/ bar in downtown Boulder, CO. The design was to utilize an existing brick house, integrating it into contemporary design. It was to contain gardens to grow ingredients for the restaurant.

The goal was to integrate the existing building and the gardens as a key part in the experience. This decision required the building being set back from the street front. It then became important to develop a strong front façade to clearly identify the building as a restaurant. Large windows along the front provide a transparency showing the activity inside the structure. Additionally, outdoor seating helped identify the structures intention.

The other issue of the site was dealing with the six foot rise from front to back of the site. The entire structure was to be ADA accessible. It was decided that the handicap would not have a different experience, and the ramps were layout as the main path throughout the structure.

All drawings are ink on mylar.

Hostel designed for Chautauqua Park in Boulder Colorado, approximately 20,000 square feet. The building was to include sleeping arrangements for sixty, a public kitchen, a bar, outdoor and indoor gathering/ multipurpose areas.

The structure was designed through explorative studies of 3D forum. The building evolved from several iterations of a basic parti model. During this process attention was paid to the general size and programmatic requirements. After this general form was derived, it was analyzed and modi ed to better t the programmatic needs.

The building takes advantage of the sunny weather of Colorado. Large windows and a translucent roof over the lobby allow the building to be ooded with natural lighting. Large windows on the west side of

the building provide views of the mountains, while a roof deck on the third oor provides views of the Colorado plains.

The building designed to separate activities of various sound levels. A large hallway provides the buffer between the sleeping and eating areas from the lobby and bar areas.

Beaumaris, Ontario Marina and Boat Emporium, designed to celebrate the history of antique wood boats built in the region in the 1920s through 1930s.

The site provided several complications. The soil was mainly Precambrian granite, which makes any excavation expensive. An existing government owned road which could not be modi ed divided the site. The local building vernacular is primarily Victorian style private homes and boat houses, which proved to be a challenge not to alienate the local style with contemporary architecture.

A large analysis of the site and surrounding area provided the framework for the project. Weather patterns, sun diagrams, site usage diagrams and local building technologies and materials were studied before starting to construct ideas.

The site proved to be a challenge. A large period of time was spent on formulating a site strategically. The project was to include a boat museum, boat restoration, class room space, a marine shop, repair wharf, wet boat exhibit, parking for 24 cars plus supporting programmatic elements.

The site was only to be used during the warm months of the year, as the area is primarily a summer home community. The long summer days here are full of sunlight, so using natural day lighting was the main focus when considering the building facade. The building is designed to be naturally ventilated. Roof overhangs for shading, louvers for defusing light. A wood frame over the entrance was designed to help patrons’ eyes adjust to lower light level of the interior spaces and help de ne the better de ne the entrance
