FUTURE CAREER OPTIONS

The Agricultural Pathway is a unique program that provides high school students the opportunity to not only learn about agriculture in the classroom, but also through supervised agriculture experiences, and the FFA. As a student in the Agricultural pathway, learning doesn’t just come from books, but extends to the Elk Grove Agri-Science Center, a multitude of hands-on projects and leadership opportunities.

FFA is a national organization that is an integral part of agricultural education. FFA members are encouraged to develop leadership capabilities through participation in conferences, public speaking or judging contests, chapter activities and community service – the opportunities are endless. In fact, members have the opportunity to participate at the chapter or local level sectional, regional, state and even the national level. The rewards of leadership involvement include resume enhancement, scholarship opportunities and more!

As I am about to pursue a graduate degree at University of Illinois for swine nutrition, I reflect on how FFA influenced my life. Without my FFA involvement at Sheldon, I may have never become student manager at the Cal Poly Swine Unit. I may have never got to intern in Iowa on a sow farm or do swine nutrition research for JBS United in Indiana for two consecutive summers. I may have never graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. But really, without my FFA advisors persistence to succeed, I would not have even applied at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and wonder where I would be now if they were not there for me.”

The FFA, through the classes, competitions and the advisors, took the time to mentor someone like me, someone very rough around the edges, while allowing me to build lifelong friendships and have loads of fun.”
