Principal’s Note
Our September start up has been very smooth and we are now settled into the school year. Our grade 8 students seem to be enjoying their transition into high school, our grads are focusing on the big year ahead and all of our learners are busy as we wrap up our first month.
We have a few new faces at SHSS - Ms. Clark is our band teacher and we welcome back Ms. Jago to our Humanities department. Also, Ms Skinner and Ms Berringer have joined our office staff. We have had several families move to our district and we are excited to see new additions to our student body. We are also hosting 6 exchange students - 3 from Quebec and 3 Rotary students from Germany, Italy and Denmark. The energy in our building is very positive and we look forward to working with all of our SH community members.
Bus passes have been distributed to most of our students and we should have the last of them handed out this week. More information about bus pass use will be sent to you from our Transportation Department soon. If you have not yet registered for busing, it is not too late. You can sign up quickly by using this link:

As you can see by the pictures and features below, SH has been a busy place since September 6th. With lots of clubs, teams and activities underway, we hope to see everyone engage fully in their high school experience.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make September a fun and exciting month in our school community!
The Debate Club at SHSS has started up with several students showing interest. The meetings are on Wednesdays at lunch where impromptu style debate practice and dis-cussion happens. The meetings will also be used to prep for up coming tournaments. For more info, join the Edmodo group, code 56npxw, or contact the coaches, Mrs. Jago and Mr. Turner. THIS MONTH AT SHSS
SHSS BAND
The SHSS Junior and Senior Bands are off to a great start! We have an awesome group of 26 grade 8 musicians in the Junior Band that are showing major potential! The Senior Band is working hard, sounding great, and looking forward to sharing some music at the Remembrance Day Ceremony. The grade 8 Junior Band meets Mon-days and Wednesdays after school and the grade 9-12 Senior Band meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school. It's not too late to join us if you're interested!
Shed for Sale
The SHSS construction class has been building a 10’
x 10’ garden shed! The shed is for sale and it can be
finished to the buyer’s preferences. The shed can be
viewed in the shop compound at SHSS. Please con-
tact Mr. Liszt if you are interested ([email protected]).
Robots are back!
Our SH Robotics club met for the first time last week. Stu-dents had the choice of working with Lego Mindstorms, Vex, Arduinos or focusing on some programming. The club meets every Thursday after school and no experience is necessary. We hope to have lots of students come out to explore the world of robotics and coding. Join us in room 213!
SHSS RECYCLING PROGRAM
At SHSS we have students who recycle all of our bottles cans and juice boxes.
Jacob, Brendan and other students collect the recyclables from the many bins that are in the hallways and in class-rooms on Fridays and then they sort them on Tuesdays. It is a lot of work but these students are very dedicated!
We really appreciate the work that our students are doing and we thank everyone for their support of our recycling program.
Grade 8 Fun!
On Tuesday, September 27th, our Leader-ship students hosted an afternoon of fun and games in the fall sunshine for our grade 8's. It was great to see everyone outside having fun and making connec-tions with some of our older students. Thank you, Leadership Class!
Archery is Starting!
The Archery Club will start meeting on Wednesdays in October from 3:00 to 4:30. Anyone interested in learning how to shoot or developing their skills should come out and see what's happening in the Activity Room!
Out and About!
The Grade 11 Biology class head-ed out to the Mel Deanna Trail for a field trip focusing on ecolo-gy. Students had an opportunity to collect samples and to explore the ecosystem while enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
Food Bank Project
Exciting news! SHSS has made an arrangement
with our local Food Bank to help prepare and
store fruits and vegetables. We are now accepting any fruit or vege-
table donations. If you have any extra produce from your gardens or
from a grocery run, drop-offs can be made during school hours inside
the front entrance. If you have any questions contact Ms Jackie at
