President’s Message
Fellow colleagues, At the April CLSA State board meeting we approved changes to the bylaws that govern the State association. The new bylaw will now need to be ratified by all of the State corporate members before they are adopted. If you are a current State CLSA member you should soon receive a copy of the proposed bylaws in the mail along with a ballot asking for your vote. If you want a say on how the State CLSA Association is governed, here is your chance. If you are not a State member please sign up by going to the Members website at https://www.californiasurveyors.org/joinclsa.asp. If you are reading this message hopefully you are already a local CLSA chapter member. The more local members that we have provides your local chapter with greater representation at the State Board meeting. I encourage all of you to also become a local chapter member by signingup at our membership site at http://www.rsbsurveyors.org/?page_id=1595 This month our Chapter dinner meeting will a joint meeting with the LA Chapter and will be held in Pomona. I know that Pomona is a long way for most of you to travel to but this meeting will be well worth the trip. Our speaker for theevening is an attorney that specializes in tree encroachment issues. I’m sure we all have a neighbor with a tree thathis hanging over a property line and you have thought about “trimming” some branches back, or perhaps you have surveyed a lot because your client wants to know if the tree is on their property or the neighbor. Come hear about what you can legally do with that tree or what to do with a tree that straddles a property line. Immediately following the joint meeting with the LA Chapter (approximately 8:45 pm) Dr. Francelina Neto, Department Chair of Civil Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and Dr. Howard Turner willbe holding a meeting to discuss setting up a bachelor degree in Surveying at Cal Poly Pomona. They have requestedsupport from the RiversideSan Bernardino Chapter of CLSA in coordinating this meeting to discuss the program and obtain support from the professional land surveying community in order to advance this idea to the college administrators. A new Bachelor of Science Degree in Land Surveying offered at Cal Poly, Pomona would be a tremendous benefit toour profession. If possible, please consider staying after the chapter meeting to hear Dr. Neto and Dr. Turner sharetheir vision for this program and bring your ideas on how we can help support their efforts and make this happen. Regards,
Ryan Hunsicker Riverside/San Bernardino CLSA 2014 chapter president

The Issue:
California has been steadily reducing funding for educational institutions. ● The CSU Fresno Geomatics program is considered to be small and is more susceptible to cutbacks or
elimination. ● Both professors that hold a professional land surveying license, are now retired.
The Need:
● CSU Fresno Geomatics program was the first four year surveying degree program in the nation and the first to become ABET accredited.
● CSU Fresno Geomatics has graduated over 700 students. ● Students graduating from the CSU Fresno Geomatics program have gone on to serve in many leadership
positions in the land surveying profession both in the private and public sector. The Solution:
● The CLSA Education Foundation has worked with CSU Fresno to create an endowment that will fund a fulltime professor licensed to practice land surveying in California. This will help to ensure that the CSU Fresno Geomatics program continues.
● Lyles Foundation will match all donations, dollarfordollar, up to $1 million The Benefit:
Your donation is fully tax deductible!
