A.Linguistic intelligence involves sensitivity to spoken and written language, the ability to learn languages, and the capacity to use language to accomplish certain goals. This intelligence includes the ability to effectively use language to express oneself rhetorically or poetically; and language as a means to remember information. Writers, poets, lawyers and speakers are among those that Howard Gardner sees as having high linguistic intelligence.

B.Logical-mathematical intelligence consists of the capacity to analyse problems logically, carry out mathematical operations, and investigate issues scientifically. In Howard Gardner's words, in entails the ability to detect patterns, reason deductively and think logically. This intelligence is most often associated with scientific and mathematical thinking.

C.Musical intelligence involves skill in the performance, composition, and appreciation of musical patterns. It encompasses the capacity to recognize and compose musical pitches, tones, and rhythms. According to Howard Gardner musical intelligence runs in an almost structural parallel to linguistic intelligence.

• Each Team Choice Element will be evaluated in three ways:

• for the Creativity and Originality of the Team Choice Element;

• for the Quality, Workmanship, and/or Effort that is evident;

• and for the Integration of the Team Choice Element into the Presentation

• Please note that no Team Choice Elements are required for the improvisational Challenge, News to Me

Evaluation of Team Choice Element is subjective..

Page 11: Side Trips Team Choice Elements. Goals Know that Team Challenge is comprised of the Central Challenge and 2 Team Choice Elements Locate helpful information

• Each Team Choice Element must be capable of being evaluated as a standalone item.

• Appraisers must be able to quickly and easily identify your team’s Team Choice Elements.

• The way in which the Team Choice Elements are written on the Tournament Data Form is very important.

Part Two: Brief Description of Team Choice Elements

Team Choice Element 1 : what is your Team Choice Element?

…Continually Rhyming everything that is said throughout the performance.

Please write a brief description of your Team Choice Element.Make sure that Appraisers know exactly what you want them to evaluate. What would you like them to know about the Team Choice Element?

…Every character Rhymes throughout the entire play, but each has a different style of Rhyming. The Doctor Rhymes and talks like he is Dr. Seuss. “CheMo” Rhymes with the use of Rap. Cancer 1 and Cancer 2 Rhyme in sync with each other. Lance Rhymes with the same sound ending each complete verse.

…The face makeup on Cancer 1 and Cancer 2… Please write a brief description of your Team Choice Element.

Make sure that Appraisers know exactly what you want them to evaluate. What would you like them to know about the Team Choice Element?

…Cancer 1 and Cancer 2 are mimicking Walt Disney’s Siamese's cats and wanted their makeup to help portray that feeling. Cancer 1 researched the makeup of the musical “Cats” and has recreated her version not only on Cancer 2 but on herself as well…

• For example, the team has written Flamenco music, choreographed a Flamenco dance and designed and created a Flamenco dance costume for a character.

• The team wants all of these items (original Flamenco music, dance and costume) evaluated as one Team Choice Element.

• As long as these items are not being specifically scored elsewhere in the Team Challenge, the team can list these items on the Tournament Data Form to be scored as a Team Choice Element.

• However, keep in mind if one of the aspects of the Flamenco items is not as strong as the other parts of it, it could affect the Team Choice Element.

A Team Choice Element could include more than one specific item

Page 16: Side Trips Team Choice Elements. Goals Know that Team Challenge is comprised of the Central Challenge and 2 Team Choice Elements Locate helpful information

• A Team Choice Element may be presented at the same time as another Team Choice Element only if both can be easily identified and scored separately.

• For example, a team might choose to present two Team Choice Elements in the form of an original dance set to a piece of original music. Both Team Choice Elements (the dance and the music) can be easily identified and evaluated as separate items.

What to choose?

Page 17: Side Trips Team Choice Elements. Goals Know that Team Challenge is comprised of the Central Challenge and 2 Team Choice Elements Locate helpful information

A Team Choice Element may not be a specific item that is required in the

Central Challenge that is already being evaluated.

A Team Choice Element may be a single unique part of a required item, as long as

an Appraiser can identify it by itself

Make it Unique!

A “vehicle” is a required scoring item in the Central Challenge. The team may not list the entire vehicle as a Team Choice Element. However, the side of the vehicle might feature artwork painted by the team. The team may ask that the artwork on the vehicle be evaluated separately as a Team Choice Element

Examples

The same vehicle is being scored for overall technical design. A team may ask that a specific design element, such as the vehicle’s braking or steering system, be evaluated separately as a Team Choice Element.

A Challenge may require a piece of scenery. The team creates a backdrop of a kitchen to fulfill its scenery

requirement. For one of its Team Choice Elements, the team creates a working mechanical clock on the wall of the

kitchen scenery. The clock is part of the scenery and is evaluated as part of the scenery, and it can also be easily identified and evaluated as a stand-alone item for a Team

Choice Element.
