Dear Members,

I’m so excited about the upcoming plans for the Chapter. Of course, I finished last year on a high with the surprise of being CRS of the Year. Our 2010 Chapter of the Heart Fashion Show Fundraiser supporting RAVE Family Foundation concluded last year’s successful year with Avis Cherry as President.

For those who attended our first meeting in February, it was truly exciting to see how many people attended, a special thank you to Gene Harrison, Senior Investment Manager from Wells Fargo Bank and Mike Bosma, CPA from the Bosma Investment Group. It was a struggle for me to get there, just 7 days from major surgery to eradicate the breast cancer from my body; hence this year’s theme “Passionately Pink” was born. Just about every person that I talked to has been impacted by someone’s fight with cancer. Already we have begun our plans for the 2011 “Passionately Pink” Fashion Show with the proceeds going to Susan G Komen Foundation, so mark your calendar December 2nd.

I was reminded what a great organization CRS is when I was busy push-ing back my chemo schedule two weeks so I could attend the CRS Mid-Year Meetings in Washington DC. I urge each one of you to get involved in our local Sierra Nevada Chapter and also on the National level where you will meet others of the highest professionalism in our industry – also a fun group of people! We are excited that we have more than 50 signed up for the CRS 202 Sales Course with Frank Serio at the end of the month and we have plans for a 2nd CRS course in September so look for details. In our best laid plans we tried to line up our meetings to the first Friday of the even months but the Legislative Update WCR/CRS Joint meeting has been moved to June 23rd. The following day join us at the Ball Park to root on the Aces. August 5th we have Regional Planning meeting and Oct 7th Business Goal Setting , so an exciting year of informative meetings. We will soon be announcing our impressive summer networking events for Tahoe and Carson Valley.

I look forward to seeing you at our next event!

When you go to any kind of an event and you see the leaders of the organi-zation going and doing things together, showing that they are working to-gether as friends, what are you thinking? Would you like to be a part of what is happening? Would you like to work with them, be-come friends with them?

You can, you know! When they are at the lectern telling you about the differ-ent events and functions that are coming up, talk to them after the meeting. Volunteer to do some-thing, even if it’s just taking registrations or tickets at the door or helping at one of the classes.

Once they know that you would like to become involved and what your talents are, they will be happy to have you a part of the Team. That’s what Leadership is, you know. A Team.

If you have thought about running for an office, get to know the leaders as well as other Chapter members, go to the meetings and learn what it’s

COUNCIL NEWSall about. If you are thinking that it takes too much time to be involved, you would be amazed at how you work your days and your commitments around each other. As they say, if you have something that needs to be done, ask a busy person and they will get it done.

Yes, becoming involved means making a commit-ment to help make your CRS Chapter better, and as you get involved, you realize how rewarding it can be. When you get into the position where you are traveling to the National meetings, meeting other leaders from all over the country, becoming friends with them, networking with them, you realize they are just like you, wanting to make their Chapters better and our CRS Council better. And when they have a referral, who do they call? Someone they know personally that will take care of their clients in a new city, not just someone on the roster.

So you see, deciding to become involved in your CRS Chapter is rewarding to you in many ways. You make friends, receive referrals, and have personal pride in what you have helped the Team to accom-plish. You are a part of their success.

Think about your assets, and what you may have to offer. Everyone has different expertise and that’s what builds a great team. Don’t wait to call any of your CRS Chapter Leaders and ask how you can help. You will not be sorry.

Have a wonderful day and I hope to see you all at our next Chapter luncheon and our CRS 202 class on March 30 and 31.

A Certified Residential Specialist is a REALTOR® whohas earned certification from the Council of Residential Specialists by completing a rigorous course of advanced training, and by meeting significant experience require-ments.

Less than 4% of all REALTORS® in the US can call them-selves Certified Residential Specialists (CRS). That’s because just one in 25 REALTORS® has the extensive experience, the unique commitment and the hours of advanced training necessary to call themselves a Certi-fied Residential Specialist.

4 Reasons to work with a CRs Designee:

1. Experience & EthicsTo earn the Certified Residential Specialist Designation every REALTOR® must have a significant mix of experi-ence and volume of real estate transactions. Every Certified Residential Specialist is required to maintain membership in the National Association of REALTORS® and to abide by its strict Code of Ethics.

2. A Focus on Home Buying and SellingTo help make your home buying and selling process more rewarding, every Certified Residential Specialist must have a proven track record in the business, as well as advanced education in related areas like finance, technology & marketing.

3. Technological ExpertiseThe training available to Certified Residential Specialists includes a strong focus on technology and its applica-tion in the real estate business.

4. An Ability to Maximize Profits and Minimize CostsEvery Certified Residential Specialist is trained to help you understand your local market, screen prospective buyers and sellers, negotiate in your best interest and, ultimately, help you enjoy a successful home purchaseor sale.

However you define success, you can get there faster by earning the CRS Designation. CRS training gives you in-depth knowledge about busi-ness planning, making listing presentations, negotiating and closing smoother transactions, working in the buyers’ and sellers’ best interest and building a referral business. Once you have completed the rigorous educational and production requirements to earn the Certified Residential Specialist Designation, you have many resources at your fingertips - strong referral network of more than 38,000 CRS members; timely and timeless news and information found in the bimonthly magazine, The Residential Spe-cialist; and networking opportunities locally through CRS Chapters and nationally at events such as Sell-a-brations®, the Council’s annual educational conference, and National Committee Meetings held twice yearly.

Why choose CRs and not other designations?

Quite simply because you put the most effort into get-ting it and get the most value back from it. Your mind is open to new challenges, possibilities and opportunities to enhance your business. Your CRs training, mentoring and networking help you decide on the right choices for you and your business.
