Dear Members,

As the year 2010 comes to a close so does my two year term as President of this great Chapter. I reflect on the relationships I’ve formed, the places I’ve been able to visit and the changes we have been through, both as a Chapter and as an industry.

If I had to think of one word to sum up the past two years, it would be “challenging”. It’s been a challenging year for many in our industry. A record number of foreclosures and short sales in our state but the CRS agents I’ve met confirm that we will continue to meet these challenges and succeed.

To support our members in meeting today’s challenges the Chapter offered several educational opportunities. We sponsored two CRS classes in Reno, one on Finance and the other on “Build-ing a Referral Business”. We also offered low cost CE classes in several locations, and speakers on timely subjects.

Networking opportunities is another way we met the challenges by sharing our knowledge and experience with fellow CRS members. We met at North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe this past summer to network with members, our RVP, Michael Litchin, the members of the Northern California Chapter and Gregg Fujita, CRS Council President. Thanks to our District Representa-tives, Christina Rice and Jody Scowcroft for putting on these great events.

This year we implemented our Chapter Sponsorship Program. It was also a challenge to success-fully combine it with our fashion show sponsorship. Donna Clark supported my vision and was instrumental in designing and implementing the program. We also updated the website and are now on Facebook. We stepped up email communication with Constant Contact e-flyers to keep our members informed.

Our accomplishments would not have been possible without my Leadership Team; Donna Clark, Cyndy Brown, Nancy Costello, Christina Rice, and Jody Scowcroft. To all of you, my heart-felt thanks. To our Past Presidents, Pam Ricci, Kathy White and Victoria Williams who continue to serve this organization and have supported me throughout the past two years, you have my gratitude. To the Chairs and Vice Chairs who have donated countless hours to put on events, classes, speaker presentations and networking events, thank you for your support. A special “thank you” to Bonnie Dailey, our Chapter Administrator, for her wealth of knowledge, valuable advice and friendship.

Talk to anyone who attended our past two fashion shows; last year, was our 25th Annual Silver Anniversary Show, chaired by Sharon Hay. It was a beautiful celebration of our 25 years putting on fashion shows. This year’s fashion show was held at the Atlantis which allowed us to sell a record number of tickets…500! Donna Clark chaired this years show, “Mrs. Claus is Coming to Town”. If you missed either of these shows, you will hear that they were enjoyed by all. From the champagne receptions to the Hip Hop Elves, they were packed full of fun, Christmas cheer, fash-ion and furs. As with all of the fashion shows, they take many hours of a few dedicated members and affiliates to make them a success. The chairs and their committee do a great job of putting on these fabulous shows for our community to kick off the holiday season. So was it a challenging year to be our Chapter President? For me, it was a year that confirmed the strength of the CRS spirit—and one I’ll look back on with pride, gratitude, and wonderful memo-ries. Thanks for giving me the chance to serve you and for your encouragement, friendship, and support.

CRs of the Year Donna Clark, CRs

Congratulations to 31 year real estate veteran Donna Clark of Dickson Realty at Caughlin Ranch. Donna earned her des-ignation in 1999 after realizing she only wanted to refer to the

elite in real estate - Certified Residential Specialists. Those who know Donna well would say she is passionate about CRS and the Chapter. Although “roped into” helping on her first committee(by Kathy White), Donna has taken on numer-ous projects and helped bring a new vision of changes to the Chapter. She helped design and coordinate magazine advertise-ments, organized and audits the financials for the Chapter (some don’t like that she questions the purpose of every expense for the benefit of the entire Chap-ter), arranged for emails through constant contact, and set up on line credit card payments. Don-na is talented on the computer so she designed brochures for the Chapter and sponsorship program. She assisted Sharon Hay with the Fashion Show for 4 years and then took on the Show this year. We are very thankful for her ded-ication and appreciate the time and efforts that she has devoted to the Chapter.

COUNCIL NEWSleaDeRsHIP TRaInInG

Donna and I recently re-turned from our Annual Chapter Leadership training in Chandler, AZ. The training is for Pres. and Pres.- elects for the next year. I can’t tell you how great it is to be sur-rounded by these amazing REALTORS® from all over the United States. There were around 100 there and it was a fabulous 3 days learning more about CRS and the

inner workings, networking with top notch agents, getting to spend time with our Pres and Pres-elect for the Council. It’s such a privilege to be a part of such an amazing group of people.

The theme for this year was “The Next Reality”. We spent the first day with Brian Copeland – one of our leading national seminar speaker/trainers – top 1% of all agents in the Nashville area. He gave us everything we wanted to know and more about social networking. He is a lot of fun – even had a panel that our own Donna Clark was on that portrayed the “Match Game” – they were cutting edge in their ‘70’s outfits!

Rachel Tristano is our Director of Chapter and Regional Programs, Certified Residential Specialists. She spent the next day with us on the “Nuts and Bolts” of CRS Chapters – very, very informative – she is our backbone at the Council and always available to help us in any way she can.

Frank Serio – my twin (we were born same day, same year – different mothers!) from Delaware - our incoming Council Pres. gave us a lot of great information to bring home and use in our Chapters as well as our businesses.

I really encourage you to get involved in leadership – it will grow your knowledge as you network with the top 25% in the business AND grow your business as you meet these incredible people and get referrals from them as well as have them to refer to.

A Certified Residential Specialist is a REALTOR® whohas earned certification from the Council of Residential Specialists by completing a rigorous course of advanced training, and by meeting significant experience require-ments.

Less than 4% of all REALTORS® in the US can call them-selves Certified Residential Specialists (CRS). That’s because just one in 25 REALTORS® has the extensive experience, the unique commitment and the hours of advanced training necessary to call themselves a Certi-fied Residential Specialist.

4 Reasons to work with a CRs Designee:

1. Experience & EthicsTo earn the Certified Residential Specialist Designation every REALTOR® must have a significant mix of experi-ence and volume of real estate transactions. Every Certified Residential Specialist is required to maintain membership in the National Association of REALTORS® and to abide by its strict Code of Ethics.

2. A Focus on Home Buying and SellingTo help make your home buying and selling process more rewarding, every Certified Residential Specialist must have a proven track record in the business, as well as advanced education in related areas like finance, technology & marketing.

3. Technological ExpertiseThe training available to Certified Residential Specialists includes a strong focus on technology and its applica-tion in the real estate business.

4. An Ability to Maximize Profits and Minimize CostsEvery Certified Residential Specialist is trained to help you understand your local market, screen prospective buyers and sellers, negotiate in your best interest and, ultimately, help you enjoy a successful home purchaseor sale.

On September 30th, eighteen members attended the strategic planning meeting held at MCS Mortgage. After acknowledging President Avis for all the wonder-ful accomplishments the Chapter has made under her direction for the past two years, Donna explains her vision of New Direction, New Energy, New Technology and Growth through Change. The vision statement for the Chapter was updated to: Create a desire for agents to earn their designation and be a part of our Chapter superior networking and educational opportunities. Donna has already laid the ground work and began her vision by increasing affiliate participation through Spon-sorship relationships (which was kicked off in conjunc-tion with the Fashion Show), hiring a Marketing Admin-istrator who will help create fabulous marketing pieces such as this newsletter, making improvements to PayPal payments (accomplished this late last night so don’t have fear in paying on the website), creating a Facebook page Sierra Nevada CRS Chapter (be sure to go in and “like it” as all the photos will be there) and plans to give you lots of updates through constant contact which she began that program earlier this year. She would like to increase public awareness about Why Choose a CRS and increase membership. Before strategic planning she clarified and reorganized the Chapter’s Policy and Procedures (it was further improved at the meeting) so leadership can succeed in their positions, membership grows and the Chapter thrives. The Chapter is planning on having two CRS Courses in 2011 with the first being instructed by CRS Council

President Frank Serio on March 30-31 so plan on hearing about the updated Sales Strategies in a challenging mar-ket. Erin Schiller from Ticor is planning joint Continuing Education opportunities for our members throughout the regions. Through the generosity of our members and those attending the CRS Fashion Show, Kathy White and Donna Clark delivered two cars full of toys to the Salvation Army’s collection for Toys for Tots. We are excited to begin a new tradition of giving to our community. We hope next year we will double the donations. Thank you to all those who participated with the short notice.
