What led to the creation of this programme?

Industry has a desire to increase career access opportunities in the aviation sector; starting with Pilots, ensuring that the right people can access the jobs

People are finding it harder to access the sector, equally, the industry is not getting enough of the right applicants for jobs

Linking the education system to the aviation sector career pathways creates the opportunity to address many issues

Government, who also has a desire to support skills growth in aviation, can start to support skills programmes

Apprenticeship and Degree? What is the difference...

Page 9: Simon Witts, CEO Aviation Skills Partnership

….are all one and the same thing, delivered in exactly the same way

At the point of graduation, for all, pilots are qualified to operate commercial flights with passengers, with a licence issued by the

CAAThe only difference is the employment status of the individual

who, as an Apprentice, is suitably employed

The Higher Apprenticeship in Professional Aviation Pilot

Practice…

The standard industry training to become a pilot…

The BSc (Hons) Professional Aviation

Pilot Practice Degree..

Without the higher apprenticeship framework that sits behind the training that takes place, employers and cadets cannot access the benefits of apprenticeships.

If they are all the same why have we created a Higher Apprenticeship as well as a Degree?

Page 11: Simon Witts, CEO Aviation Skills Partnership

What are the opportunities to become an Apprentice?

The framework that has been developed is now available for employers to use to employ Apprentices

At this initial stage airlines are most likely to recruit cadets who have already started their training, so the immediate opportunities are likely to be for those who are training with an organisation which is delivering this programme
