Kym Davis Perpetual Trophy
Kym Davis has been a long time supporter of the Club. He sponsored the Club for more than 10
years through his previous business Bridgestone Tyres-Magill. This trophy recognizes the efforts
made by individuals to support the Club over a period of time.
Rohan has played for the Club from when he was a
junior. He has been Club Secretary, committee
member, and for the past three years acted in a very
important role for the club- Practice coordinator. This
involves preparing drills in advance for every training-
and is made harder when he have such fluctuating
numbers at training. Congratulations Rohan- a very
worthy winner of this perpetual trophy.

President’s Report
The 2016 season has been a successful season for the Club. Through our signs,
website and connections we have been able to again recruit a handful of new
players this season. We hope that Michael Box, Leigh Richardson, Duey Kain, Matt
Burness, Mae Stace and Joe Coggins all enjoyed their time and will return in 2017.
We also welcomed the return to the Club of Alex Davis and Steven Myers after
many years.
We held a number of social events throughout the year including several social nights in the city, and 4X
BBQ triple headers. This year our fundraisers were the Community Lottery, Bunnings BBQ and
Entertainment books. Thank you to everyone who assisted with this. Financially, the Club is well
positioned and this is largely because of the Westminster Business Network. I encourage you to utilize
the companies in the Westminster Business Network where you can to return their support. The Club
has regularly attended the fortnightly meetings throughout the year.
On the field the Club again experienced a successful season. Both M3 and M5 made the finals. The M3
side looked strong all season and on their day were capable of beating any team. They went down 2-4 to
PAC in the semi- final. Thank you to Corey Billows and Matt King for their efforts as joint Captains. The
M5 side, with the addition of a few quality new players , as well as depth in the Club proved to be very
competitive. Congratulations on winning the M5 premiership. Thank you to Mike Nelson for Captaining
the team. The M6 side was led by Ben Coggins. It has been fantastic to see the development of this side
that consisted of many players in only their first or second season of hockey. With the inclusion of 5-6
players some weeks the M6s had 15 players. The side was competitive for most of the season and
showed great development as the season went on.
Thank you to this year’s committee, James Peikert (Treasurer), Josh Bown (Secretary), Elliott Benson
(Fundraising), Chris Malec (Match day), Josh Paech (Events), Henry Mitchell (Equipment) and Damon
Nicholson (Selection), supported by Matt Fuller. A special thank you to Rohan Hocking for again putting
a lot of time into the training sessions. It’s no easy task to coordinate training for so many people with
different skills, and, opinions.
Behind the scenes, there are several people that go about their business helping the Club. I would like to
thank Mark Horwood and Tony Benson for their ongoing efforts over many years in running the
Westminster Business Network- for the Hockey Club. Josh Bown and James Peikert coordinated training
and after game drinks- another thankless task that really helps the social dynamics of the Club.
We hope to see you all again in 2017.

M3 Report- 2016
The final whistle has now been blown on another season. 2016’s season saw many highs, a good amount of lows, a ton of laughs and some very interesting moments. This season has been the most successful season for the M3s since we have been members of the club, finally making the preliminary final. This success, is quite obviously due to the outstanding captaincy and leadership shown, by us, throughout the season, we basically carried you. All jokes aside, we toiled hard dominating some teams with wins such as 6-0 against Adelaide, 5-0 against Uni, Forestville and Uni again. We defeated the scum that is Port Adelaide, not once but twice in a season, that was fun. There were 2 draws all season, a hard fought 3-3 against PAC and ‘that’ draw against Flinders which I am sure none of us want to talk about. And as for the low lights, well they aren’t important, because looking back on the season as a whole, it was incredibly successful. We have had a fantastic year of hockey, so let’s take a moment to reflect on some of the funny moments and triumphs over the year.
WINS DRAWS LOSSES
12 2 4
Going off of the above results, we have had a fantastic year of hockey as a group. We have put some solid wins on the boards, and on some occasions, coming back from being down at half time to win a game, against teams like Seacliff and Adelaide. What is interesting to note is that our losses this year have come from the same three sides in Seacliff, North East and PAC. We always know going into these kinds of games that it is going to be hard fought, and that we need to put in two solid halves of hockey to be able to come away with the win.
6
A highlight from this year would have to be beating Port twice, which is not an easy feat, seeing as most of their team will try and kill you at some point. Unfortunately, we did say goodbye to Simon this year due to injury, which was a big loss for the side, as we have always relied upon Simo to make those game changing tackles. Having played with Simon as a fullback for a couple of years, his hard work and dedication both at trainings and game days, have defined him as one of the best players that I have ever stepped on the field with. Congratulations are in order for Bownie and Fuller, with Bownie forgetting to bring his goalie gear (the only thing he needs to bring) to a game, and Fuller for attempting to start a fight against a fully kitted up goalkeeper, by head butting him. MATT- I personally had a great season co-captaining the M3. Being captain, I have seen all the work that
goes on behind the scenes by so many people in the club. Westminster is at a strong place right now,
with some incredibly passionate people working hard in the background. M3s, thank you for the season,
thank you for accepting us as captains and following along with our ideas on how we think we should
play. I look forward to 2017.
CB - I enjoyed my year as co-captain with Seagull, and I honestly believe that this has been one of the best seasons that I have ever seen us play. We have really lifted this year to show that we are one of, if the not, the best sides in the competition. Unfortunately, the final result at the end of the year didn’t go the way we had hoped, but having made it so far, it was a testament to the hard work and dedication that we have put in throughout the year.

M5 Report- 2016
The 2016 season for the Westminster M5 Men's team started the way we finished our 2015 season, with a loss to Woodville.
A sunny April afternoon at Seacliff saw a rusty and disjointed side ship 4 goals to a Woodville team
that picked us off on the counter attack and shut down our own attacks with ease. That early defeat should have had us looking not just at the loss, but how we'd lost, but at the time, we were
more focussed on building a settled squad and getting some points on the board.
Some good wins followed, against Grange, Adelaide, Port and Uni SA before we were brought back to earth by a 4-2 beating by North East away. That was immediately succeeded by a desperately
poor 1-0 defeat to Adelaide Uni. We rallied to put 8 goals past Seacliff before succumbing to 3-0 to
SPOC at the PAC ground.
By the halfway mark, we were sitting third on the ladder, with 5 wins and 4 losses, behind North East and SPOC.
The second half of the season started the way we'd started the first half, with another loss to
Woodville, but with other results falling our way, we managed to stay in the top four and in finals contention. More wins followed, and as we gradually settled into a regular squad of 16 or so, we
started to find a rhythm that other teams found hard to match. We beat Adelaide Uni 4-2 at their
West Beach ground and even losing our regular centre half, Rohan Hocking, didn't throw us off our stride.
10
Henry Mitchell, then Alex Davis, ably filled the gap as we closed the second half of the season with 6
wins and 3 losses: Woodville, North East and SPOC, the last game a 5-2 hammering.
There's an old adage, though, that says you learn more from your defeats than your victories, and in losing to North East and SPOC, we came away with the germ of an idea on how to best take on the
sides we were going to face in the finals.
Because we'd finished third, our first game was against Adelaide Uni. While James Peikert marked up Adelaide Uni's top scorer on the left of midfield, the rest of our team rolled right and stretched a
creaky Uni defence. Taking our chances, we won 3-1 and progressed to the next round, to face North East.
Behind SPOC, North East had the stingiest defence in the league. Going into the game, we looked at how North East had
beaten us previously, and worked on ways to counter them. Despite going a goal down, we fought back to equalise
and went into golden goal extra time, aware that anything but a win would see us out of the competition.
With 90 seconds to go, we drove into the North East's D, our
attack ending with a shot from Jatinder Singh that a North East defender swept past their own 'keeper and into the goal.
The grand final against SPOC saw us change our usual set up, using our squad's depth and tactical flexibility to offset SPOC's
strengths in attack and defence. After all, SPOC had beaten us home and away, 8-2 on aggregate, but with almost a full-
strength squad, we went into the game confident we could get a result.
Once again, James Peikert was assigned the job of keeping their
leading scorer quiet, while Josh Paech's job was to close down
SPOC's centre half. Leigh Richardson opened the scoring with a neat deflection off a Rohan Joshna cross/shot. Rohan then got onto the scoreboard himself with a
lovely goal off a short corner, and despite a momentary lapse that allowed SPOC to nick a goal on the counter, the game's momentum was tilted our way. Daniel McGaffin sealed the win and no
matter what SPOC threw at our defence, Matt Burness, Tom Mullins and Aidan Galpin were more than equal to the task.
Andrew Emmett cycled through the bench, as the clock ticked down for a fantastic win.
Despite the ups and downs that inevitably come from great wins and frustrating losses, the key to
the season's success was finding a settled squad of 16 or so players who worked together as a
team. It was that confidence in ourselves and our team mates that gave us the momentum we needed to carry us over the line.
11
That's not to say though that it was just the 15 guys on the day who won the grand final. Everyone
who played over the course of the season, Andrew Emmett, our peerless manager, Damon and Matt Fuller, the team selectors, and everyone else who came out and supported the squad
throughout the season are just as much a part of the winning team on the night.
Next season, we've got two goals: back to back grand final victories, and finding a way to beat
Woodville. See you next year.

M6 Report- 2016
This year we started the season with a similar squad to the 2015 season. We also had a few new players
join the ranks with a mixture of exposure to hockey. New to the club this year was Joe, Mae, Steven,
Chris, Matt B and Hellena. Returning to the club was Ben W, Lorien, Kingsley, Dave, Lucy, Josh, Beth,
James H, Hugh, Sam, and Aqeel. We were also supported this season by a number of players from other
grades a big thanks to Rohan, Mic, Callum, Zac and James P from M5 and Bownie from M3.
To my surprise, I was picked to caption the 6s this season and found out very quickly how poor my
organizational skills and match report writing was. It was a challenge to pick the strongest team for our
opening game for the 2016 season as there were so many new players and we were all unfamiliar to
how each other played.
The opening game was a disappointing 10-0 loss. But we found out very quickly who our best defense
was with Matt B and Jason F really standing out and continued to for the remainder of the season.
For the next two games we worked well in our defense and attack but lacked the strength in the middle
of the pack. Despite this Lucy opened up the Westminster M6 bank account by bagging a goal against
Enfield ending in 2-1 loss for Wests. The remainder of the first half of the season was a familiar story
starting poorly but finishing with a strong second half. It took us until round 6 to pick up our first point.
We took a very low numbered team up to North East and hung on to take home a well fought 0-0 draw.
It was at this moment we started playing hockey with confidence and started to gel as a unit, despite the
next two games both ending in a loss we took away positives with a low scoring game against last years
premiers and a narrow loss to our closest rivals Adelaide Hills. Lorien and Steven showed us how to
control the middle and Joe was demonstrating his killer instinct within the D.
15
We had now reached round 9 and picked up our first win of the season with an 8-0 score smashing
North East 2. It was in this game that Joe scored one of his two hat tricks of the season. To keep moving
forward I asked Matt and Josh M to be part of my selection committee to help pick our strongest team.
The team had a new vibe and you could feel we all wanted to finish the season in 6th place. We
managed to pick up 4 more wins before our season came to an end.
I told myself this season I wanted to improve on last years season and together as a team we did.
Finishing joint 6th, and lower score difference then the year before and a 38 goal haul split between 13
goal scorers.
