■ Benefits
• Maximum efficiency of up to 98.7 % guarantees maximum PV plant yields.
• The master/slave principle with "rotating master" employs an ingenious process to connect or disconnect inverter subunits depending on irradiation levels Using this system, it is possi-ble to operate the photovoltaic plant extremely efficiently to produce maximum plant yields even when irradiation levels are low.
• In master/slave systems, the "rotating master" always starts the inverter subunit with the fewest operating hours first. In this way, the total operating hours are evenly distributed among all the subunits. The durability and availability of the system are enhanced as a result, helping to minimize the total cost of ownership.
• Low servicing and maintenance costs through the use of fully developed, tried-and-tested standard industrial products
• High availability by virtue of low-maintenance design with rug-ged, durable components
■ Application
Inverters of the SINVERT PVS 600 product series are ideally suited for application in photovoltaic power plants ("Power Plant" segment) with outputs in excess of 500 kW.
They are typically employed in ground-mounted systems.
SINVERT PVS inverters are manufactured to relevant standards and regulations. They are suitable for application in countries which require conformance to IEC standards (see "Technical data", page 3/8).
The devices have degree of protection IP20 and are suitable for installation indoors.
■ Design
SINVERT PVS inverters are characterized by their compact and rugged design. They are based on fully developed, tried-and-tested standard industrial products.
On units which operate according to the master/slave principle with "rotating master", up to four inverter subunits can be inter-connected to form a master/slave system.
SINVERT PVS inverters are self-commutated, IGBT-based (IGBT: Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) units with pulse width modula-tion.
They are equipped with integral, low-noise fans for dissipating heat losses. Air is drawn in through ventilation grilles on the lower half of the front panel. Once through the grille, the air is guided upwards through air ducts which gradually narrow in order to in-crease the flow rate and strengthen the heat dissipating effect. The air exits at the top.
SINVERT PVS inverters have several DC inputs (see "Technical data", page 3/8), each of which is equipped with LV HRC fuses and DC contactors. The SINVERT PVS inverter can be discon-nected from the photovoltaic generator by means of the DC con-tactors.
The SINVERT PVS inverters are equipped with one AC contactor and one circuit breaker at the AC end. This switchgear can be used to decouple the SINVERT PVS inverter from the low-voltage or medium-voltage network.
Surge protection devices are integrated at the AC and DC ends.
SINVERT PVS inverters feature a terminal compartment with separate panels for DC and AC connections.
The DC and AC cables are connected from below through duct openings in the the closed base panel.
All parts of the SINVERT PVS cabinet can be recycled.
A control and display panel is mounted in the door of the AC cu-bicle. The compact panel with 4.3" TFT widescreen display clearly shows the infeed power data and other information, and allows intuitive operation of the inverter by the touch screen method (see "Function").
Indicator lamps are located below the control and display panel. These indicate the current operating state of the SINVERT PVS inverter (see "Function").
■ Function
Basic function
Within photovoltaic plants, SINVERT PVS inverters are the link between the photovoltaic generator (total of all electrically inter-connected photovoltaic modules) and the public AC grid. Their basic function is to convert the direct current produced by the photovoltaic generator into an alternating current and to adjust this current to the frequency and magnitude of a specified volt-age for infeed into the public grid. Conversion to grid-compliant AC can be carried out with minimum losses using modern power electronics.
Temperature monitoring
SINVERT PVS inverters have internal temperature monitoring that protects against violation of the permissible ambient tem-perature.
Control and display panel
The control and display panel is a touch panel which shows a corresponding "screen" for each menu item. The user navigates between menu items and between functions within individual items by touching the panel at the "screen" position at which a button with the corresponding command (e.g. "Back", "Settings" or "Service") is displayed.
In addition to the "screens" which display current values or fault messages, for example, there are also "screens" for changing system settings and servicing activities. The items "Settings" and "Service" in the main menu are protected by a password.

Status displays
There are two indicator lamps for visualizing the different inverter statuses.
Communications
SINVERT PVS inverters have an Ethernet interface. When the in-verter is linked to an Ethernet network, it can exchange data with a visualization system such as WinCC via the Ethernet interface (see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring"). With a visualization system it is possible, for example, to operate and visualize the photovoltaic installation and to acquire, store and visualize mea-sured data and messages. Integrating the inverter into a network also makes it easier to analyze the photovoltaic yield data (set-point/actual value comparisons) and operate the installation from a remote location. This in turn facilitates the arrangement of service callouts at short notice, reduces system downtimes to a minimum and thus optimizes the yield of the plant. Interfaces to other communication channels (e.g. DSL, analog telephone, ISDN, GSM) can be provided if necessary.
Master/slave
The master/slave principle with "rotating master" is a mas-ter/slave system comprising up to four interconnected inverter subunits. It employs an ingenious process to connect or discon-nect inverter subunits depending on irradiation levels (calcu-lated according to the sun's path, cloud conditions, etc.). One inverter subunit acts as the master. The master is started up first and operates when irradiation levels are low. As irradiation levels increase, the power limit of the master is reached and the next inverter subunit, i.e. the slave, is switched in. Depending on the configuration, up to three slaves can be switched in. As irradia-tion levels drop again, the subunits are disconnected in stages. One advantage of the master/slave principle is that the inverters operate more efficiently and produce higher yields when irradia-tion levels (which determine the PV generator output) are low than would be achieved if only one single central inverter were used.
In master/slave systems, the "rotating master" always starts the inverter subunit with the fewest operating hours as the master. In this way, the total operating hours are evenly distributed among all the subunits.
Insulation (ISO) measurement
An insulation measurement is integrated in each inverter in order to protect personnel. The insulation measurement function mon-itors the system for low resistance to ground resulting from an in-sulation fault (e.g. caused by a damaged cable). Depending on the type of insulation fault, an alarm is output or the inverter is tripped
Provision of supplementary functions by options
The standard scope of functions of SINVERT PVS 600 series in-verters can be optionally expanded. Optionally available are, for example, a PV array grounding system, an increase in the maximum permissible operating voltage from 820 to 1 000 V, a DC input symmetry monitoring system or a cabinet heating for plants installed in cold regions (see "Options", page 3/14).

■ Configuration
The SINVERT Select software is available to support the config-uring of photovoltaic plants.
This configuring program is designed to determine the ideal configuration for a photovoltaic plant with SINVERT PVS invert-ers. The program calculates all practical combinations for most of the photovoltaic modules available on the market in conjunc-tion with SINVERT inverters, and enables evaluation and optimi-zation of the calculated combinations in a simple and under-standable way.
Only a few details, such as the location, type of photovoltaic module, and plant size are required for the dimensioning pro-cess.
Two methods are available for dimensioning the inverters:• With the automatic dimensioning method, the ideal SINVERT
inverters for the selected photovoltaic module and power specifications are selected from the entire spectrum of SIN-VERT inverters. You can optionally specify the required num-ber of photovoltaic modules per string and the applicable lim-its with respect to power specifications (i.e. area, number of modules or total power output).
• With the manual dimensioning method, you can specify up to two SINVERT inverters from the SINVERT range for calculation of the installation.
For further information, see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring".

The assignment between options and the respective basic units can be identified by the designation. Each order number is coded to indicate the master/slave configuration in which the unit is available (M = master, X = number of slaves, S = slave). A matching code is also used in the option designations. This coding clearly identifies the assignment between unit and con-figuration.

■ Options
1000 V option 600 series
The 1000 V option increases the maximum permissible input voltage of the SINVERT PVS inverter from 820 to 1 000 V. Provi-sion of this option ensures that the PV plant will go into operation smoothly even with voltages in excess of 820 V which can de-velop, for example, on cold days or in arrays containing thin-film modules. The option thus maximizes the potential yield of the in-stallation. The MPP voltage range of the SINVERT PVS inverter is not changed.
PV array grounding positive pole 600 series
The "PV array grounding positive pole" option allows functional grounding of the positive conductor inside the SINVERT PVS in-verter if this is a requirement of the photovoltaic modules used (e.g. large number of thick-film modules). The current is mea-sured between ground and the positive pole for the purpose of monitoring plant behavior. When the current increases to a risky level, the ground connection is automatically separated. It is only by this ground that damage to modules and a steady loss of power can be prevented. In other words, this grounding ar-rangement can ensure continuous maximum yields from the so-lar panels
Note:
The option "PV array grounding positive pole" cannot be ordered in combination with the option "PV array grounding negative pole".
PV array grounding negative pole 600 series
The "PV array grounding negative pole" option allows functional grounding of the negative conductor inside the SINVERT PVS in-verter if this is a requirement of the photovoltaic modules used (e.g. large number of thin-film modules). The current is mea-sured between ground and the negative pole for the purpose of monitoring plant behavior. When the current increases to a risky level, the ground connection is automatically separated. It is only by this ground that damage to modules and a steady loss of power can be prevented. In other words, this grounding ar-rangement can ensure continuous maximum yields from the so-lar panels.
Note:
The option "PV array grounding negative pole" cannot be or-dered in combination with the option "PV array grounding posi-tive pole".
Cabinet heating 600 series
The "Cabinet heating" option minimizes the risk of condensation forming on moisture-sensitive components in the SINVERT PVS inverter at low ambient temperatures and ensures an ideal (min-imum) operating temperature for reliable operation of the in-verter. Reliable operation and maximum energy yields to the grid are dependent on compliance with the operating temperature range prescribed for the relevant SINVERT PVS inverter. This function is recommended for locations at which the ambient tem-perature can drop below 7 °C.
Symmetry monitoring 600 series
The "Symmetry monitoring" option measures the normalized cur-rents at the DC inputs internally and cross-compares the values. If this comparison indicates deviations over time, a message is generated. The message can be used as a guide to localizing faults early in sections of the PV generator (e.g. cell failure).

■ Overview
Central Inverter according to UL
The 3-phase SINVERT PVS inverters with integral low-voltage transformer are reliable, grid-compatible and cost-effective pho-tovoltaic inverters which are used to convert solar energy into grid-compliant AC voltage for infeed into conventional power supply networks.
SINVERT PVS compact inverters are available with power out-puts of 350, 700, 1 050 and 1 400 kW.
Their characteristics are described below.
Output and efficiency• SINVERT PVS inverters are particularly efficient in every ope-
rating point. They are capable of top efficiency levels of up to 97.2%.
• They are suitable for photovoltaic installations with a power output of 350 kW and above.
Connection and installation• SINVERT PVS inverters have integral DC and AC connections.• They feature a terminal compartment with separate panels for
DC and AC connections.• The DC and AC cables are connected from below through
duct openings in the the closed base panel.• SINVERT PVS inverters must be installed on a dry, non-com-
bustible and level surface.
Interfaces• Ethernet
Operator control and monitoring• SINVERT PVS inverters have a compact panel with 4.3" TFT
widescreen display (480 x 272 pixels and 256 colors) that clearly shows current infeed power data and other informa-tion.
• SINVERT PVS inverters are operated using touch screen with intuitive menu prompting.
■ Benefits
• Maximum efficiency of up to 97.2% guarantees maximum PV plant yields.
The durability and availability of the system are enhanced as a result, helping to minimize the total cost of ow-nership.
• Low servicing and maintenance costs through the use of fully developed, tried-and-tested standard industrial products
• High availability by virtue of low-maintenance design with rugged, durable components
■ Application
SINVERT PVS inverters are ideally suitable for application in photovoltaic power plants ("Power Plant" segment) with outputs of 350 kW and above.
They are typically employed in ground-mounted systems.
SINVERT PVS inverters are manufactured to relevant standards and regulations. They are designed for application in countries which require UL certification (see "Technical data", page 3/20).

SINVERT PVS inverters have a separate air duct for the transfor-mer. This segregates the transformer heat losses from the con-trol components.
SINVERT PVS inverters have several DC inputs (see "Technical data", page 3/20), each of which is equipped with LV HRC fuses and DC contactors.
SINVERT PVS inverters feature a terminal compartment with se-parate panels for DC and AC connections.
The DC and AC cables are connected from below through duct openings in the the closed base panel.
All parts of the SINVERT PVS cabinet can be recycled.
A control and display panel is mounted in the door of the AC cu-bicle (see "Function").
The compact panel with 4.3" TFT widescreen display clearly shows the infeed power data and other information, and allows operation of the inverter by the touch screen method (see "Func-tion").
Their basic function is to convert the direct current produced by the photovoltaic generator into an alternating current and to adjust this current to the frequency and magnitude of a specified vol-tage for infeed into the public grid. Conversion to grid-compliant AC can be carried out with minimum losses using modern power electronics.
Temperature monitoring
SINVERT PVS inverters have internal temperature monitoring that protects against violation of the permissible ambient tempe-rature.

Integrating the inverter into a network also makes it easier to analyze the photovoltaic yield data (set-point/actual value comparisons), operate the installation from a remote location, arrange service callouts at short notice, reduce system downtimes to a minimum, and thus optimize the yield of the plant. Interfaces to other communication channels (e.g. DSL, analog telephone, ISDN, GSM) can be provided if necessary.
Master/slave
The master/slave principle with "rotating master" is a mas-ter/slave system comprising up to four interconnected inverter subunits. It employs an ingenious process to connect or discon-nect inverter subunits depending on irradiation levels (calcula-ted according to the sun's path, cloud conditions, etc.). One in-verter subunit acts as the master.
Provision of supplementary functions by options
The standard scope of functions of SINVERT PVS inverters can be optionally expanded. Optionally available are, for example, a PV array grounding system or a voltage measurement at the DC inputs (see "Options", page 3/23).

■ Integration
The inverter is provided with standardized interfaces so that it can be integrated into a control system or an existing customer installation. The interfaces can also be used to remotely monitor and operate the device, for example, through the Internet portal or by means of the WinCC visualization system.
Professional operations management can be implemented using the WinCC visualization system (see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring").
The advantages of the WinCC visualization system include:• Clear display of plants, plant sections (subplants) and inver-
ters• Remote access to inverters• Remote monitoring• Acquisition, long-term storage and display of current and his-
torical data• Graphical representation of the monitored data• Plant monitoring• Messaging services using e-mail and text message• Fault messages can be specifically configured for customized
operations management• Map
■ Configuration
The SINVERT Select software is available to support the configu-ring of photovoltaic plants.
This configuring program is designed to determine the ideal configuration for a photovoltaic plant with SINVERT PVS inver-ters. The program calculates all practical combinations for most of the photovoltaic modules available on the market in conjunc-tion with SINVERT inverters, and enables evaluation and optimi-zation of the calculated combinations in a simple and understan-dable way.
Only a few details, such as the location, type of photovoltaic mo-dule, and plant size are required for the dimensioning process.
Two methods are available for dimensioning the inverters:• With the automatic dimensioning method, the ideal SINVERT
inverters for the selected photovoltaic module and power spe-cifications are selected from the entire spectrum of SINVERT inverters. You can optionally specify the required number of photovoltaic modules per string and the applicable limits with respect to power specifications (i.e. area, number of modules or total power output).
• With the manual dimensioning method, you can specify up to two SINVERT inverters from the SINVERT range for calculation of the installation.
For further information, see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring".

■ Options
Option "D30" – PV array grounding positive pole
The "PV array grounding positive pole" option allows functional grounding of the positive conductor inside the SINVERT PVS in-verter if this is a requirement of the photovoltaic modules used (e.g. large number of thick-film modules). The current is measu-red between ground and the positive pole for the purpose of mo-nitoring plant behavior. When the current increases to a risky le-vel, the ground connection is automatically separated. It is only by this ground that damage to modules and a steady loss of po-wer can be prevented. In other words, this grounding arrange-ment can ensure continuous maximum yields from the solar pa-nels. This option must be employed if modules which require its use are installed in the plant.
Note:
Option "D30" must not be ordered in combination with option "D40".
Option "D40" – PV array grounding negative pole
The "PV array grounding negative pole" option allows functional grounding of the negative conductor inside the SINVERT PVS in-verter if this is a requirement of the photovoltaic modules used (e.g. large number of thin-film modules). The current is measu-red between ground and the negative pole for the purpose of monitoring plant behavior. When the current increases to a risky level, the ground connection is automatically separated. It is only by this ground that damage to modules and a steady loss of po-wer can be prevented. In other words, this grounding arrange-ment can ensure continuous maximum yields from the solar pa-nels.
Note:
Option "D40" must not be ordered in combination with option "D30".
Option "D70" – Voltage measurement at DC inputs
The "Voltage measurement at DC inputs" option measures the voltage applied to the DC inputs upcircuit of the DC contactors (at photovoltaic array end). The DC contactors for the DC inputs are switched by means of a software function only when the vol-tage has reached a defined value.
Option "M10" – Symmetry monitoring
The "Symmetry monitoring" option measures the normalized cur-rents at the DC inputs internally and cross-compares the values. If this comparison indicates deviations over time, a message is generated. The message can be used as a guide to localizing faults early in sections of the PV generator (e.g. cell failure).
Option "M20" – Insulation (ISO) measurement
The "Insulation measurement" option monitors the system for low resistance to ground resulting from an insulation fault (e.g. caused by a damaged cable). Depending on the type of insula-tion fault, an alarm is output or the inverter is tripped in order to protect personnel.
Option "P40" – Interface to medium-voltage data
The "Interface to medium-voltage data" option acquires the fol-lowing signals from the medium-voltage switchgear: Ground "connected", ground "disconnected", circuit breaker "closed", circuit-breaker "open", fuse tripped, fault on auxiliary switch, me-ter pulse.
The signals are displayed in the monitoring systems. The meter pulse (= pulse of an electricity meter) can be used to measure the energy feed into the grid.
By visualizing signals in the monitoring system and acquiring meter pulses, it is possible to implement a simple method of mo-nitoring the power infeed by the PV plant into the medium-vol-tage grid.
Note:
Option "P40" can only be ordered in combination with option "P50".
Option "P50" – Interface to container data
The "Interface to container data" option allows signals from the container to be acquired/displayed via appropriate inputs and outputs: Container temperature, supply air temperature, smoke detector, "horn" activation.
The smoke alarm signal is read in and transferred to the monito-ring systems. The signal is also applied to an output which can be configured, for example, to activate a horn.
The container temperature and supply air temperature signals can be used to drive the SINVERT PVS inverter cabinet fans in energy-saving mode.
Reliable operation and maximum energy yields to the grid are dependent on compliance with the operating temperature ran-ges prescribed for the components installed in the container and detection of smoke detector signals.
Note:
Option "P50" can only be ordered in combination with option "P40".
Option "S10" – Cabinet heating
The "Cabinet heating" option minimizes the risk of condensation forming on moisture-sensitive components in the SINVERT PVS inverter at low ambient temperatures and ensures an ideal (mi-nimum) operating temperature for reliable operation of the inver-ter. Reliable operation and maximum energy yields to the grid are dependent on compliance with the operating temperature range prescribed for the relevant SINVERT PVS inverter. This function is recommended for locations at which the ambient tem-perature can drop below 7 °C.
Option "S30" – AC auxiliary supply
The "AC auxiliary supply" option provides a power supply for the components of the SINVERT PVS inverter (fans, cabinet heating, communications options, etc.). Supplying these components from the PV generator is generally less economical as the energy supplied to the grid is reimbursed at a higher rate than the cost of the power consumed by the components listed above. The plant yield can therefore be optimized by providing an external power supply. This can be connected to a separate energy meter if desired.
Note:
Option "S30" can only be ordered in combination with option "S40".
Option "S40" – AC outputs for external loads
The option "AC outputs for external loads" allows external loads (electric drill, for example) to be supplied via the two protected load outputs.
One output is rated for 400 V AC (3-phase, PE, 16 A) and the other for 230 V AC (1-phase, about 500 VA).
Note:
Option "S40" can only be ordered in combination with option "S30".

• A rugged, durable and low-maintenance design combined with the use of fully developed, tried-and-tested standard in-dustrial products keep servicing and maintenance costs low, ensure an exceptionally long service life, high availability, and low total cost of ownership.
■ Application
The inverter stations are ideally suited for application in photo-voltaic power plants ("Power Plant" segment) with outputs starting at 1 000 kW.
They are typically employed in ground-mounted systems.
The stations are manufactured in accordance with the relevant standards and regulations and are suitable for application in countries which require conformance to IEC standards.
■ Design
The inverter stations which are available in steel or concrete are characterized by their high-quality, compact and rugged de-sign.
The stations are equipped with integral low-noise fans for dissi-pating heat losses. The air supply and extraction systems are specially tailored to the integrated components. The supply and extraction systems for the inverter and transformer compart-ments are decoupled.
The stations contain between two and four inverter subunits which are interconnected in a master/slave system, as well as an AC distribution container section (customer-specific). As an op-tion, the station can be equipped with a medium-voltage trans-former and medium-voltage switchgear. All components are per-manently installed, completely wired, and tested. Only the connections necessary for operation, such as the DC connec-tions of the photovoltaic generators, the AC grid connection, and the communication connections have to be implemented.
The DC and AC cables are connected from below through duct openings in the closed base panel.

■ Function
Basic function
Within photovoltaic plants, the inverter stations are the link be-tween the photovoltaic generator (total of all electrically intercon-nected photovoltaic modules) and the public AC grid.
Inverters
The SINVERT PVS photovoltaic inverters which are an integral component of the stations convert the direct current produced by the photovoltaic generator into an alternating current and then adjust this current to the frequency and magnitude of a specified voltage (low voltage). Thanks to its modern power electronics, it can perform the DC-to-AC conversion with mini-mum losses.
AC distribution system
The AC distribution system is perfectly tailored to the require-ments of the inverter stations. It powers, controls and monitors the components in the station (e.g. it controls the container fans or monitors the temperature of the two-tier transformer).
The power to the AC distribution system can be supplied by an external 400 V AC infeed (50 or 60 Hz) provided by the cus-tomer. Alternatively, it can be supplied by an auxiliaries trans-former connected directly to the SINVERT PVS inverter which transforms the output voltage (288 or 370 V) of the SINVERT PVS inverter into a 400 V voltage (50 or 60 Hz).
The AC distribution system is tailored to customer requirements.
Medium-voltage transformer
The medium-voltage transformer transforms the low voltage supplied by the SINVERT PVS photovoltaic inverter into a de-fined medium voltage of, for example, 20 kV for feeding into the grid.
Several medium-voltage transformer brands are available, e.g. the loss-optimized GEAFOL medium-voltage transformer (cast-resin two-tier transformer), which has been specially designed for photovoltaic applications.
Medium-voltage switchgear
The medium-voltage switchgear is available as an option. It dis-tributes energy and feeds power into the medium-voltage net-work. The following medium-voltage switchgear configurations are available: RT, RRT, RTT, RRTT, RL, RRL, RLT or RRLT1). 1) 1) R = ring-main panel, T = transformer panel, L = circuit breaker panel
without voltage transformer.
Control and display panel
The control and display panel is the same as the unit supplied with the IEC-compliant central inverter (see page 3/4).
Communications
The inverter stations have an Ethernet interface. When the sta-tion is linked to an Ethernet network, it can exchange data with other stations and with a visualization system such as WinCC via the Ethernet interface (see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring"). With a visualization system it is possible, for example, to operate and visualize the photovoltaic installation and to acquire, store and visualize measured data and messages. Integrating the sta-tion into a network also makes it easier to analyze the photovol-taic yield data (setpoint/actual value comparisons), operate the installation from a remote location, arrange service callouts at short notice, reduce system downtimes to a minimum, and thus optimize the yield of the plant. Interfaces to other communication channels (e.g. DSL, analog telephone, ISDN, GSM) can be pro-vided if necessary.
Master/slave
The SINVERT PVS inverters integrated in the inverter stations op-erate with a "rotating master" according to the master/slave prin-ciple. This is a master/slave system comprising between two and four interconnected inverter subunits. It employs an inge-nious process to connect or disconnect inverter subunits de-pending on the level of solar radiation (determined according to the sun's path, cloud conditions, etc.). One inverter subunit acts as the master. The master is started up first and operates even when irradiation levels are low. As irradiation levels increase, the power limit of the master is reached and the next inverter sub-unit, i.e. the slave, is switched in. Depending on the configura-tion, up to three slaves can be switched in. As irradiation levels drop again, the subunits are disconnected in stages. One ad-vantage of the master/slave principle is that the inverters operate more efficiently when irradiation levels (which determine the PV generator output) are low than would be achieved if only one sin-gle central inverter were used.
In master/slave systems, the "rotating master" always starts the inverter subunit with the fewest operating hours as the master. In this way, the total operating hours are evenly distributed among all the subunits.
Insulation (ISO) measurement
The insulation measurement function monitors the system for low resistance to ground resulting from an insulation fault (e.g. caused by a damaged cable). Depending on the type of insula-tion fault, an alarm is output or the inverter is tripped in order to protect personnel.
Provision of supplementary functions by options
The standard scope of functions of the integral SINVERT PVS in-verters can be optionally expanded. Optionally available are, for example, a PV array grounding system or an increase in the maximum operating voltage from 820 to 1000 V (see "IEC-compliant central inverters", page 3/14).

■ Configuration
The SINVERT Select program supports you with configuring photovoltaic installations. This configuration program allows the best possible configuration of SINVERT PVS inverters to be de-termined for a defined photovoltaic installation.
SINVERT Select is a dimensioning program designed to deter-mine the ideal configuration for a photovoltaic plant with SINVERT inverters. The program calculates all practical combi-nations for most of the photovoltaic modules available on the market in conjunction with SINVERT inverters, and enables eval-uation and optimization of the calculated combinations in a sim-ple and understandable way.
Only a few details, such as the location, type of photovoltaic module, and plant size are required for the dimensioning pro-cess.
Two methods are available for dimensioning the inverters: • With the automatic dimensioning method, the ideal SINVERT
inverters for the selected photovoltaic module and power specifications are selected from the entire spectrum of SIN-VERT inverters.
Inverter stations can only be dimensioned with combinations of SINVERT PVS inverters with power outputs of 1 000, 1 200, 1 500, 1 800, 2 000 and 2 400 kW.
For further information, see Chapter 4 "Software and monitoring".

■ Function
SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes
With the SINVERT PVS CombinerBox, the individual strings of the photovoltaic generator are collected in the field, connected in parallel, and the energy conveyed across large cross-sec-tions of cable to the SINVERT PVS inverter or the inverter station.
Module strings can be "collected" and their energy transported to the SINVERT PVS inverter or inverter station using a single-stage or two-stage connection concept:• With the single-stage system, the energy supplied by the
module strings to the inputs of the SINVERT PVS Combiner-Boxes is transported directly to the SINVERT PVS inverter or the inverter station via one box output in each case.
Bundling of the solar direct current using SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes (single-stage concept)
• With the two-stage concept, the module strings are brought together in the SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes (first stage). The outputs of these SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes are then connected to other SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes (second stage). The outputs of the SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes of the second stage are then connected to the inputs of the SIN-VERT PVS inverters or inverter stations. The advantage of this two-stage concept is that power losses are reduced thanks to the increased cable cross-sections.
Bundling of the solar direct current using SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes (two-stage concept)
The SINVERT PVS CombinerBoxes 108, 120, 124 with eight, twenty, and twenty-four inputs are used in the first stage. The SINVERT PVS CombinerBox 204 with four inputs is used in the second stage.
The SINVERT PVS CombinerBox is designed for wall mounting.
The inputs of the SINVERT PVS CombinerBox are protected by fuses. The fuses are not included in the scope of supply of the SINVERT PVS CombinerBox and must be ordered separately. The output of the SINVERT PVS CombinerBox can be optionally equipped with or without a switch disconnector. A SINVERT PVS CombinerBox with switch disconnector is capable of discon-necting the connected section of the photovoltaic generator from the SINVERT PVS inverter, e.g. for maintenance purposes.
The SINVERT PVS CombinerBox is optionally available with or without surge protection which is designed to protect the mod-ules.
The SINVERT PVS CombinerBox has degree of protection IP54 and is rated for voltages up to 1 000 V.

SINVERT PVS ControlBox
SINVERT PVS ControlBox 300
The purpose of the SINVERT PVS ControlBox 300 is to regulate the active and reactive power of a photovoltaic plant containing SINVERT PVS inverters and to ensure compliance with legal re-quirements (according to the current amendment of the Renew-able Energy Act (EEG), in force since January 2009).
The BDEW guideline "Generating Plants in the Medium-Voltage Grid“ stipulates this requirement for all systems feeding in at the medium-voltage level. Its primary benefit is that it enables grid operators to limit the output of the plant by remote control in ac-cordance with §6 of the Renewable Energy Sources Act 2009.
The SINVERT PVS ControlBox 300 offers a wide range of open-loop and closed-loop control functions, e.g.:• Specification of a fixed active power for all individual
SINVERT PVS inverters in the photovoltaic plant, e.g. setpoint value = 2 MW (fixed active power value)
• Specification of a fixed reactive power for all individual SINVERT PVS inverters in the photovoltaic plant, e.g. setpoint value = 100 kvar inductive (fixed reactive power value)
• Specification of a fixed power factor cos φ for all individual SINVERT PVS inverters in the photovoltaic plant, e.g. setpoint value = -0.95
• Regulation of the active power for individual SINVERT PVS in-verters in the photovoltaic plant as a function of the active power actually measured at the grid infeed point, to 0%, 30%, 60%, and 100% of the rated active power of the photovoltaic plant. (Active power reduction in accordance with § 6 EEG)
• Regulation according to Q(U) characteristic• Regulation according to Q(t) characteristic• Regulation according to P(f) characteristic• Ramps for system ramp-up and ramp-down, i.e. continuously
approaching the setpoint
The SINVERT PVS ControlBox 300 contains the following main components:• SIMATIC components with digital inputs• SIMATIC IPC427C industrial PC (MICRO BOX PC)• SITOP power supply module• SENTRON PAC3200 Power Monitoring Device for measuring
actual values at the grid infeed point• SCALANCE XF204-2 network switch with four RJ45 ports, two
