    Presidents Message

    Aloha!

The joint Oahu SI awards reception on March 23 was truly an example of thegreat things we can do as Soroptimists when we join together in the cause ofhelping women and girls. The Awards Committee not only did the legworkto bring in applications andfind judges, they also planned and executed anexceedinglyfine event. Mahalo! And, all of us who attended were inspiredby hearing from the outstanding awardees.

SI Waikiki hopes to have the awardees we sponsored speak at our programmeetings in the coming months. Also coming up is an opportunity to joinwith the other Oahu clubs at SI Honolulus monthly meeting in April where

motivational speaker, Pam Chambers, will give a presentation. SI Honolulu has invited us to join withthem at their dinner meeting, 5:30 at the Waialae Country Club on April 24. Contact me if you are inter-ested in attending; the cost of dinner is $35.

At the Awards Reception, I was asked to provide an inspiration. In the interest of time, I chosea short quotation from Nelson Mandela: Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use tochange the world. However, I would like to also share this passage with each of you.

What we are learning around the world is that if women are healthy and educated, their families will flourish. If women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, theirfamilies will flourish. And when familiesflourish, communities and nations do as well.
