Sri Lanka Foundation

Incorporated under an Act of Parliament, the Sri Lanka Foundation Law No.31 of 1973, Sri Lanka Foundation is the Premier Adult Education Centre in Sri Lanka and also in the South Asian Region. We are an Institute functioning under the direct purview of H E The President of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Foundation is a privileged Institution located in the heart of Colombo, the Capital of Sri Lanka; and enriched with infrastructure and ambiance, that is famed as the most distinct venue for educational activities and events.

For the past 37 years, of existence, we have been working with international institutions, government and non governmental organisations, private sector etc., and have been very closely associated with local community development organizations in reaching our primary objective of ‘being the Centre of Excellence for Adult Education’. To date, we have been very successful in accomplishing our goals to improve the quality of life of all people in many corners of the country.

The cornerstone of our success is our ability to build partnerships, where we have been able to blend with similar Institutions and produce unique products, with enhanced marketability and value addi-tion. Today we are one family with The Open University of Sri Lanka, The Sri Lanka Evaluation Associa-tion, The Optometry Association and American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM).

To realise our ambitious aim we have:

The Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI); the main educational project of the SLF, was found-ed in 1974, with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Germany as a premier non formal adult education centre with a specific focus on training and dissemination of knowledge and capacity building of public, corporate, private and civil society organizations. SLFI functions as the National Adult Education and Training Centre in Sri Lanka. The SLFI conducts courses of studies on various subjects at higher diploma, diploma and certificate levels as well as short term workshops, seminars, public lectures, and discussions. SLFI also undertakes assignments on capacity building of public, private and non governmental organizations.

The Sri Lanka Television Training Institute (SLTTI); the premier television training academy of Sri Lanka established in 1984 with the assistance of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Germany. SLTTI now functions as a fully fledged national TV training institution for capacity building of the electronic media in Sri Lanka and abroad. The SLTTI conducts diploma and certificate courses as well as short term workshops related with electronic and other media and also undertakes assignments on audio and video productions.

The Hospitality Centre is the most recently launched project that will enable us to address itself in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry which is fast moving from the skill-based to a knowledge-based industry!

The Board of Management

Elected and appointed by H E The President of Sri Lanka, The Sri Lanka Foundation is managed by a Board of Management who jointly oversees the activities of the Foundation. All Establishment and Financial activities are determined by the powers, duties, and responsibilities delegated to the Board of Management detailed in the organisation’s bylaws stipulated in the SLF Act.

The Sri Lanka Foundation; being a state institute under His Excellency, The President of Sri Lanka and together with many affiliations with local state universities, international universities and colleges, is the premier cog of the educational hub in Sri Lanka, and of late, with tenacious support of the Board of Management, we have transformed the Foundation both in its core business and support services.

Our long-term goal, in line with the ‘ Mahinda Chinthana - vision for the Future’ is to position Sri Lan-ka Foundation as a self-sustained entity of excellence for adult education and training in Sri Lanka.

The need of the hour is to cultivate professionals who are visionary, dynamic and innovative. We are equipped with multi - disciplined panel of specialists and a wealth of star class facilities to discover and nurture them. Also, we are extremely palpable to the necessities of today’s corporate world and perpetually strive to identify and address their requirements. We are attuned to offering most relevant programmes that develop human capital, thereby making them intellectually, socially, physically and spiritually balanced human beings.

At present, many aspirants are dots drifting sans direction or connection, performing alone in their own islands, unable to synergise with the rest of the world for cohesive enterprise.

This precisely is where we come in.

What we do…

We have been in the nation’s service since 1974. Our incomparable dedication imparting knowl-edge has decidedly promoted cohesive and practical intellectuality in Sri Lanka. In addition, The Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission recognise SLFI as a Diploma awarding institution.

Why we are special.

We conduct a variety of training, outreach and public education and awareness programs to achieve our objectives and help people achieve theirs. We also undertake to prepare modules in three broad strategic areas of human rights, good governance and industrial relations. The information discovered is disseminated through our publications for the benefit of the public. We have long term training programmes in psychology counselling, good governance and industrial relations, languages, social integration, media and journalism, management, business development and hospitality management.

Apart from our own curriculum we undertake to customise programmes to address corporate needs i.e: business development workshops, research projects, training need assessment, key personnel training, staff training, organisational development interventions and corporate plan-ning for private companies or state institutions.

Hospitality Management Centre

Sri Lanka has been a cherished tourist destination from the time Sinbad called the island ‘Serendib’, and has become vibrant since the end of civil conflict infusing a new lease of life to every tourism related profession. Sri Lanka Tourist Board anticipates over 5 million tourists by 2020, and in keeping with the anticipated demand for employment in this industry, we have identified Hospitality Management as an important field of education and training. We are fully equipped with kitchen, dining, catering and hostel facilities to provide practical training that are required for the hospitality management, and our strategic partnership with American Chamber of Commerce for the proposed courses and workshops will ensure high recognition.

Sri Lanka Television Training Institute

Our mission‘To train media & film personnel in Sri Lanka and Asia in programming and technological aspects of TV, Radio and principles of film art to improve the quality of electronic media and to make a more meaningful social impact’

SLTTI

Is a comprehensively equipped and staffed national media training centre to conduct professional training in television, radio & film art. Accredited under the Ministry of Vocational Training, we offer a wide range of training programmes at different NVQ levels. Long term affiliations with the local and international institutes enable us to offer degree level education at the SLTTI and yield qualified professionals to the field of electronic media. Equipment based ‘hands - on’ experience in each discipline is the distinct attribute that has attracted aspiring candidates to the National Trainer.

3D Animation & Visual Effects Unit
