SLMS Band Materials/Equipment List

Basic Needs Flutes – cleaning rod Oboes/Bassoons – 2 double reeds, small container (old pill bottle works great) to soak the reed. Clarinets – reeds and cork grease Saxophones – reeds, neck strap and cork grease Trumpets, baritones and tubas – valve oil and slide grease. Trombones – slide cream and spray bottle French horn – rotary valve oil (different than valve oil) Percussion – drums sticks and bell mallets Most of these things come with a newly purchased or rented instrument. Other Basic Percussion Needs Most young percussionists are still exploring the activity, so no need to go overboard with practice needs. Your percussionist will need a set of practice bells to keep at home. Pictured to the left is the Lyons 25-‐note xylophone (glockenspiel) with case. www.Amazon.com lists this at $24.99. This is the low end solution for practicing the mallet material that we’ll cover. They don’t have to bring this back and forth to school/home. I have everything in the band room. This is strictly for home practice. Keep in mind that you can rent a percussion kit from Taylors Music. The kits would have to stay at home.
