This Masterclass will explore small satellites for MilSatCom. Small satellites have evolved from being predominantly technology demonstrators, to being real operational tools and assets and the technology has matured to the point where such missions are now increasingly being used across a wide range of applications.

About Your Masterclass Host:

Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) is the world’s leading small satellite company, delivering complete

mission solutions for remote sensing, science, navigation and telecommunications systems.

SSTL has provided a range of small satellites in support of military and communications applications, as well

missions for space agencies and commercial service providers. Since 1981 SSTL has manufactured and

launched nearly 50 satellites. SSTL is based in Guildford UK, employs 500 staff, and is owned by Airbus Defence

& Space.

Patrick Wood has been Group Managing Director of Surrey Satellite Technology since April 2015, previously

holding a number of senior positions in Airbus Defence and Space companies. He has an outstanding track

record within the space engineering sector, having steered the Skynet 5 programme to success including

in-orbit delivery of 3 GEO Synchronous Eurostar 3000 telecommunications satellites and the associated

ground network and terminal infrastructure. Patrick holds positions as Vice Chair of UKSpace, the trade

association for the UK space industry and Chair of the National Space Technology Steering Group, NSTSG.
