1 IntroductionNew workloads and business demands require infrastructure that is faster and more efficient. Conven-tional IT architecture creates silos and complexity because of multiple products and tools that lack interoperability. HPE ConvergedSystems meets today’s business and IT needs by bringing servers, stor-age, networking and management software together - engineered to work as one single converged sys-tem.

The result is simplified, yet powerful IT that is energy and space efficient, less expensive, and aligns to meet the needs of the business for any workload at any scale. HPE ConvergedSystems are tightly-inte-grated to help reduce deployment errors along with operational and maintenance costs.

When ordering for a custom or pre-configured converged system, HPE Sales, Solution Architects and technical contacts from customers put together a Customer Intent Document (CID). CID contains sys-tem requirements and configuration information. This information is used by HPE to build the system according to specifications in the CID.

Smart CID is the Web version of CID that allows you to customize and order pre-configured HPE Con-vergedSystems faster and easier. The tool allows you to select a system, select a configuration and enter relevant details, and order a custom and pre-configured system.

FeaturesFollowing are the feature highlights:

• Web-based: Smart CID is Web-based and can be accessed from a browser. It is a single place to store and retrieve all information instead working with multiple versions shared over email.

• Simplified experience: Smart CID has built-in validations to ensure that the information entered is complete and accurate.

• Auto fill: It provides default values for hostnames, IP addresses and passwords to make the CID pro-cess faster and more efficient.

• Context Sensitive Help: The inline help is context-aware. It progressively discloses the required information – guiding users to provide the right data in the right field.

• User friendly and intuitive interface: Smart CID’s intuitive and user friendly interface makes it easy to enter all CID information in one place. The interface is similar to other HPE management tools like HPE OneView.

Browser compatibilitySmart CID is designed to work on the following browsers:

• Google Chrome

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 11

Guidelines or Instructions to follow while updating Device bay details:

• Management Servers will have same cluster name as sMgmtHosts.Management servers are high-lighted with background green color.

• Boot Method for a compute cluster will be same across frames. Boot method can be changed only in the first node of the cluster. The same boot method will be reflected across frames for a cluster

• Each vSAN cluster should be formed with minimum 3 nodes. Assign same boot method for each node in a cluster.

• Frame layout has impact based on LUN Details storage type. You may have to revisit frame layout after visiting LUN Details.

• Disk drive types used for the Cache Tier must be SSD, while drives for the Data Tier may be SSD or HDD. All drives must be SAS. Disk quantity, type, and size must be identical for each host in a clus-ter. Use the comments fields to specify disk drive and size details.

• For Nimble iSCSI Boot Method option user has to first visit Storage form and select Nimble as the storage array and select iSCSI as SAN Topology.

• As per best practices, double wide modules(D3940) should be placed in a single quadrant (place in odd numbered bay 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11).

To view and edit Device bay details:

1. Click Frame layout.

2. Click Device Bay Details (frame #).

18 CID dashboard

Page 24: Smart CID User Guide · HPE Single sign-on (SSO) login for Smart CID. If you are an HPE employee, click HPE. Smart CID authenticates your email address from the HPE cor-porate directory

Note: Each vSAN cluster forms minimum 3 nodes. If you require 3 hosts per cluster without vSAN, User must specify the additional third host in the frame layout section. While submitting in the comments field, add the note to ignore the added additional third host(s).

Note: If you are using multiple different size/form factor USB/SD devices as boot method, please spec-ify the device type to use for each cluster in the comments section.

Note: The Boot method option is available to boot from Nimble-iSCSI storage, but only method and support will be through Vmware Software iSCSI Initiator.

Note: For the D3940 configuration with vSAN, in the Device Bay Details form, user must provide the details in comments field specifying the disk types and drive types that are using within D3940 for Cache and data tiers. Disk drive types used for Cache and Data tiers used for SSD. The drive for the Data drive is either SSD or HDD. But, all drives must be SAS. The same tier drives within a VMware vSANcluster must assign to HPE OneView logical JBODs. It is displayed as vSAN stor-age tier resources. This implies that disk quantity, type, and size must be identical for each host in a VMware vSAN cluster. For example, If the user requires D3940 is configuration that contains 400GB SSDs, 480GB HDDs, and 600 HDD with intention of deploying a vSAN cluster. In the comments field, the user would specify "Cache Tier: 400GB SSD and Data Tier: 480GB HDD”.

Note: Visit the LUN Details form to select the Storage option for the volumes of the clusters formed in the Frame Layout.

Note: To manually select disks for JBODs, the user must specify disks information either in the notes section of the Submit window or by uploading a separate document with disks information. This information should outline which disk bay in each D3940 should be assigned to which JBOD attached to a specific host. The disk selection for vSAN cache/capacity is applicable for JBOD only and not for logical drives.
