MBA 374: SERVICE ORIENTED ARCHITECTURE (SOA)&ITIL

    Credit Units: 03

    Course Objectives

SOA is a core part of the service-oriented computing platform that brings with it new concepts,

technologies and challenges. First two modules of this paper will explore key parts of this

platform to provide well rounded coverage of the multi-faceted world of building service-oriented automation solutions. Now days providers of IT services can no longer afford to focuson technology and their internal organization, they now have to consider the quality of the

services they provide and focus on the relationship with customers, SOA provides you with

customer's perspective of IT's contribution to the business.

Pre-requisite: For understanding the subject a student need to know the architecture of IT,Tools of IT, Virtual environment, 3 tier, 4 tier architecture, web enables services

    Course Contents

    Module I: SOA Concepts

Introduction to SOA, Common characteristics of contemporary SOA, dimensions of SOA,Misperceptions about SOA, benefits of using SOA, Explaining the business values of SOA,

From XML to Web services to SOA, SOA Standards and specifications, SOA architecture ,

Architectural elements, location, platform ,security, interoperability, format, The enterprise

    service bus.

Module II: Project planning Aspects of SOA

Explaining business value of SOA, Why do companies need SOA, Refining SOA Characteristics

(platform, location, protocols, security, service model etc ).Web Services and Primitive SOA,

planning aspects, Need for SOA governance, Strategic directions of SOA, SOA Technical

governance, SOA Project roles and project phases

Module III: IT Service oriented analysis and design

Service Management as a Practice, The Service Lifecycle, loose coupling, strong cohesion, service granularity, specification of services, business constraints of SOA( Operating ranges,

legal constraints, INDUSTRY Business standards), Technology constraints ( operating

environment constraints, access constraints, expertise constraints)Run time qualities(Performance NFRs, scalability integrity NFRs, Security NFRs)Non runtime qualities

(manageability NFRs, Disaster recover),Introduction to ITIL
