PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners and Friends, Happy New Year! It is my prayer that God will richly bless us with peace in this 2017. May our nation be united and together may we work for the common good. May our parish community continue to grow and develop in our commitment to Jesus and his way. Thank you so very much for your cards and gifts and kind words of greeting at Christmas. You are too good to me. A word of thanks to all who made Christmas such a special moment here at Blessed Sacrament. The music at all the celebrations was wonderful - thank you to all who made that happen, especially the children’s choir at 5:30pm. To Tina Silvestro, Jim Trainor and Daniel Champoli and all who worked with them and enable such great music to happen, a special word of thanks. Thank you to the altar servers who so enriched every celebration and thanks to the Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers - your proclamation of the Word and prayerful distribution of the Eucharist - made so much more sacred our Christmas celebration. A special word of thanks to Marlon Hosang, Kimberly La Marque and Thomas Davis who co-ordinate these ministries. My thanks to Daniel Champoli, William Moran, Meg de Mercado, Martha Montalvo, Michael Murphy and Jose Bobadilla who saw to the production of the all the Mass programs and so much more. Our maintenance staff, William Castro, Apolonio Ramirez and Miguel Ruiz worked hard to keep our worship space clean and safe. The beautiful tree in the rectory (if you have not yet seen it, visit after Mass) as well as the tree in the sanctuary are the work of Michael Murphy. Cynthia Viray (who generously cares for the sanctuary linens and hangings throughout the year) and Lucia Martinez designed and executed our Nativity scene and with Thomas Davis decorated the church so beautifully. And thank you to each of you for your generous offerings to the parish for Christmas. As of this date, $97,135.00 has been received in the Christmas collection. To all who in memory of a loved one, donated $1,691.00, toward the cost of the Christmas flowers, thank you. For those wishing to celebrate the Baptism of their child, the Baptismal Preparation Session takes place this Tuesday, January 3rd, in the rectory, at 7:30 pm. Parents are expected to attend and, if possible, are urged to be part. Just a reminder, during Lent, the Church encourages us not to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism, except in the case of an emergency. This year, Lent begins on March 1st and continues until April 13th when we begin the great Pascal Triduum. From April 16th, Easter Sunday, Baptisms can be joyfully celebrated. Please be aware of these dates if you are planning a Baptism. On Wednesday and Thursday of this week we celebrate the feast days of two American saints - both lived and worked in New York. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the founder of the Sisters of Charity, was born into an Episcopalian family and later in life was received into the Catholic Church. She was married and the mother of five children. At the invitation of the Archbishop of Baltimore she

founded a girls school which gave rise to the parochial school system in the United States. John Neumann, the Bishop of Philadelphia, came to the US with the dream of being a priest and missionary. Received by the Bishop of New York, he was ordained in the Buffalo area. He became Bishop of Philadelphia, where he was a strong proponent of Catholic education and an advocate for the needs of migrants. On this New Years Day and throughout this year, please pray for peace. Fr. Duffell

NOTICIAS PARROQUIALES

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos; Feliz Año Nuevo!

Padre Duffell.
