On repairing CD section, playing a disc without the lid (CD), useChuck Plate Jig.• Code number of Chuck Plate Jig: X-4918-255-1
The laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electrostaticbreakdown because of the potential difference generated by thecharged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body.During repair, pay attention to electrostatic breakdown and also usethe procedure in the printed matter which is included in the repairparts.The flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled withcare.
NOTES ON LASER DIODE EMISSION CHECKThe laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused onthe disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical pick-up block. Therefore, when checking the laser diode emission, ob-serve from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens.
This Compact Disc player is classified as aCLASS 1 LASER product.The CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT table islocation on the rear exterior.
SECTION 1SERVICING NOTES
LASER DIODE AND FOCUS SEARCH OPERATIONCHECK1. Open the CD lid.2. Turn OPERATE switch on with to set the CD.3. Turn on SW701 as following figure.4. Press the (CD) button.5. Confirm the laser diode emission while observing the objecting
lens. When there is no emission, Auto Power Control circuit orOptical Pick-up is broken.Objective lens moves up and down three times for focus search.
Push on SW701 in thearrowed direction witha screwdriver, etc.

2. Demagnetize the record/playback head with a head demagne-tizer. (Do not bring the head magnetizer close to the erase head.)
3. Do not use a magnetized screwdriver for the adjustments.4. After the adjustments, apply suitable locking compound to the
parts adjusted.5. The adjustments should be performed with the rated power
supply voltage unless otherwise noted.
