APPLICATION GUIDELINES (FOR FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS)

SETTLEMENTS OPERATIONS TRAINING COURSE (SOTC)

Settlements Operations Training Course (SOTC) is a primer course aimed at introducing this specialised discipline in wholesale banking to career converts, recent graduates and banking practitioners redeployed into operations, settlements and dealing processing. With Singapore’s rapid rise as risk management and operations hubs, the need for proficient settlement operations professionals in investment banking, private banking and asset management has becoming especially acute. SOTC has been providing foundation training in what was previously referred to as "back office" functions since 2004. More than 1,000 participants have undergone ACI Singapore's operations and controls training as of end 2007. Since first quarter 2008, SOTC has been updated as three parts that correspond with a practitioner’s career growth:

SOTC Essential. This is the introductory phase. Focusing on basic financial products and process, it covers 4 modules of 4 hours each including continuous assessments, held on two consecutive Saturdays. The candidate – most likely a fresh graduate or new deployee – may graduate with a certificate awarded by ACI Singapore upon satisfactory completion of continuous assessment. Since April 2008, SOTC Essential has been recognised by The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) as due preparation for SII’s globally popular electronic examination on “International Introduction to Securities & Investment”. This examination is an essential module of the SII-certified Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ).

SOTC Advanced. This is the advanced phase. Going deeper into financial derivatives, processes and market issues, it covers 4 modules of 4 hours each including continuous assessments, held on two consecutive Saturdays, and aims to prepare the participant for a global advanced operations certification. The candidate – most likely a fresh SOTC Essential graduand or a practitioner with more than a year’s relevant experience – may graduate with a certificate awarded by ACI Singapore. From May 2008, SOTC Advanced will be recognised by The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) as due preparation for two of SII IAQ’s electives. These are the electronic examinations on “Operational Risk” and separately, “Global Securities Operations”.

SOTC Electives. This is the higher phase. Drilling into strategic issues in operations, product control and compliance, the electives are organised as stand-alone modules. Each module lasts 16 hours, held on two consecutive Saturdays. An essay-based assessment ensues within a month from completing the module. Graduands of SOTC Advanced Electives will be awarded a certificate by ACI Singapore. In due course, SOTC Electives are intended to tie in with SII’s Advanced Certificate in Operations, namely in the Operational Risk and Global Securities Operations.

SOTC-IAQ. Please refer to the accompanying SOTC-IAQ write-up (enclosed in the last page of this application form).
